OK then, if the racing is as good as the MGCC today it will be a cracking event.

You can thank me for the good weather. I've been frantically trying to get waterproofs sorted out for this, my first meeting. They arrived yesterday and the clouds parted...

Was actually hoping for rain as probans are on 3 week lead time, so the waterproofs are the only proper gear I have!

Wow, that would take some balls, First few things I learnt when I started: The post chief outranks God, don't pick anything up, don't look in the direction of the whistle, don't turn your back on the traffic and never leave your waterproofs at home. Ignore any of these at your peril!

Does that mean I don't actually have to get up at 5 to be there, as I am omnipresent, and can therefore have a lie in, keep an eye, both on you lot and the drivers, from the comfort of my bed?

Isn't that what a post chief does? Also paperwork just produces itself.

FA73 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Thanks to all the Brands Hatch Marshals today !!

Hi Everyone.

Hopefully a good number of the Guys who helped me today follow this Forum.

I was racing my Van Diemen FA73 in the BARC meeting at Brands Hatch today (Classic FF1600 No 49). And you could say I had "one of those days"...

First the Starter Motor packed up - luckily those manning the collecting area allowed me to park facing downhill so I could do a gravity assisted bump start...!

Then spinning (in avoidance of another spinner) coming out of Druids in qualifying led to a trip into the tyre wall. The Guys Marshalling at the top and bottom of the hill did a great job helping me recover the car and what was left of the nosecone !! So did the Rescue Truck Crew who helped me get it back to the Paddock.

Spinning in the race at Paddock on oil dropped by a detonated Kent on lap 1 led to another trip to the foot of the hill. A red flag caused by a seperate incident related to the same oil spill just up the the road allowed me a chance to rejoin the race. This time the Guys marshalling in the area between Paddock Hill and a Rescue Truck crew helped me reattach a sidepod, do up my belts, clear the grass from the radiators, and finally - you guessed it - helped me push start the car again.

Back to the pits for a quick check of the car by a Scrutineer - then the Guys at the end of the pit lane gave me yet another push start to allow me to rejoin the race at the back from there. This time we were using reverse gear due to the slope - very tricky !!

So a Massive Thank You to Everyone for all your help today !!
Andrew Smith

Many thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and wisdom offered to me before and during my first day marshalling. Had a fairly quiet one on post 25, but did have some fun push starting FF#27 during the red flag.

Will be out to play again soon...

Andrew,

That would have been us on Post 7. You started with myself and McSatan at the top of the hill, and then met the rest of the team at the bottom of the hill on post.

I do have to thank you for thinking about where to stop the car as well. Many would have just stopped where they were (bringing out the Safety Car or even the Red Flag), but you moving the car down to and behind the post, meant the racing could carry on. I don't know whether this was planned or not, but bravo!!

It was good to see you got the car fixed for later in the day, and just a shame that you managed to catch that second incident.

Hi M1fcf and McSatan and the rest of the Crew.

Parking down behind the post was a planned move - honest !!
(I have lots of experience in "parking" Formula Fords off road !!)

Cheers !!
