Goss and his Falcon XA GT Replica

At last weekends HSRCA historic meeting at Wakefield Park John Goss brought out his replica of the 74 Bathurst winning XA GT and entertained the masses by doing five laps of the circuit. The ol' girl certainly sounded glorious.

At the end of the dayI saw the GT parked outside the admin office with JG himself in the drivers seat and Kevin Bartlett in the passenger seat drinking coffee. I asked Gossy what the run had been like and he said he was worried about oil surge, just like back in 73! he said he hadn't had time to fit the intricate pumps they used to run in the day.

Interestingly it had standard seats and a white covered steering wheel to which Gossy said: "mate they came off the original car."

And we hear that he's going to start on restoring the Jaguar XJS, but that's another can of worms entirely...

yup I was there - it sounded FAT

JG used a spare shell he'd had all along and some of the bits he didn't sell to Garry Willminton way back when to build the car.

I saw it on the back of the trailer leaving Ballarat Airport from the drag day of the Falcon GT nationals, talk about poor timing

Let me revive this thread to clarify a certain point.

In my database I have a birthday for one John Goss (02 May 1943) and I have a date of death for one John Goss (15 October 1983 at Riverside, California). Without hesitation I combined these two dates and thought John Goss had died at the age of 40.

But obviously one John Goss is still alive. So there must be two persons of the same name.

Can anyone shed a little light on this?

I think the runmours of of the death of John Goss, twice Bathurst winner and Gold Star holder, are greatly exaggerated. He is happily living in Sydney, and his main activity is being Engineer for an incredibly beautiful three mast luxury sailing ship that travels the world at the whim of its Spanish millionaire owner. The ship, Addix, is captained (or was a year or so ago) by John's brother, Paul. Addix led the Sydney Hobart fleet out of Sydney Heads one year about five ago. John doesn't sail with the ship often, but he flies around the world to supervise refits, maintenance, and repairs.
What a life!

I should add that John Goss was driving the car towing the trailer I saw, and he certainly gave all the appearances of being alive. Similarly there are 2 Peter Brocks floating around the world (unless one has died). Ray, sounds like good work if you can get it!

Pretty sure that both Brocks, Peter (Bathurst legend) and Pete (best known for designing the stunning Shelby Daytona Coupe) are still with us.

Now, my memory might be getting very hazy, but aren't there also two Larry Perkins?

I have met three other me's and know of four more, without searching. There is even two guys in racing with my name, a North Queensland Sprintcar racer and a guy who raced Improved Production a decade ago in a RX7.

The 'Jr' on the end of my name shows that I share my name with at least one other person with whom I'm very close; goodness knows how many more there must be out there.

And then of course, there's the ACT town of Williamsdale...

mixxer has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I suggest you type your names (enclosed in quotation marks) into Google (or whatever you prefer) you may get some odd suprises.
My daughter did just that with my name and I happen to be a Nobel Peace prize winner amongst others.

Gossy and KB

Chatting to Gossy and KB (during what was a quiet moment for both) was very much appreciated by the few Officials that were still around after racing had ceased....

both John and Kev were literally shaking their head in disbelief at the primitive cockpit they had to work with.....still....they drove the wheels off the damn thing at the time

Is that a professional pursuit, or merely as an enthusiastic amateur?
