Hello,

Is there an idiots guide on how to set one of these up so as to only be able to hear the radio and transmission (but not send)?

If not, could I trouble someone to write one up?

(I did look at some of the generic setup instructions but got a bit lost. Also was wondering if there were any specific instructions for Brands)

Many thanks!

Simplest way is to download CHIRP and program any frequency with a Tx of 0 MHz but the receive as you want it.

Aaaarrgghh! Don't do that!!!

Transmitting at 0 MHz could create a wormhole in spacetime and you'd disappear instantly!

Know where I can get a working cable from?

Ordered one off of Amazon, took nearly a month to get here, and it was rubbish. Had a look at the reviews for a few other cables and they all seem to share a common theme .... They (usually) don't work. Something about it being a cheap Chinese copy

(Thought everything these days is a cheap Chinese copy )

So, where can I get an "expensive" Chinese copy that will work?

TIA

You'll need to hunt for the correct (older) driver, thank Prolific for that!

Yep, been there and done that

Tried version 3.2.0.0, but it did not make a difference. Hence thinking the cable is duff.

Have also tried it on the Win 7 machine and still no luck.

So looking for a supplier that will sell me a working cable

Couple of things....

If the driver came with the cable use the disc as a coaster, or decoration or whatever just don't try and use it in a PC to access the driver.

On the prolific website there is a mini program that will tell you if the chip in your cable is a pucker Prolific Chip or a cheap and nasty knock off take seconds to run and then you will know if it is cable or driver causing the problem.

My cable was purchased with the radio and despite taking an hour of mucking around to get the correct driver (version 3.2.0.0 works fines on my Win10 PC) There are some very good videos on you tube that show you how to configure the cable correctly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arpGoThEtCE

If you are a brands regular, ping me a personal message and I can lend you my cable to see it that helps.

Scanners are tolerated, and often relied upon to get messages to marshals. However, I think it is an absolute no no for a marshal to even have such a device if it is capable of transmission. Clearly from the posts above, it is difficult to program one of these properly and if not handled properly could transmit illegally.

Whilst 'illegal' I would be more concerned that it would be blocking other traffic on race control channel and everything that implies.
