Now you have posted it I suspect somebody with too much time on their hands will fact check the claim.Whatever the numbers,I doubt that either driver will like being reminded of the similarity. The difference is that by now Mercedes are likely to have revised the tolerances on some of their components and Haas still have the same driver and the same car. |

To be fair, Mazepin didn’t exactly hurt his reputation by spinning out early. He never had a great reputation to begin with!

To provide balance - quotes from Mazepin after the weekend:
"My tyres were cold and I got on the kerb and took too much throttle and spun. Totally my mistake." "Very sorry for the team, because they deserve to do much better than that, so yeah, very angry with myself. Mick was very close, so I was very focused on making sure we don't make contact and then got on the kerb and took too much throttle and lost the car. And there was no way to catch it back." |

That's not balance, that's self-condemnation. Every single racing driver from karting to F1 has the same problems. Damned by his own words. Whoops.

For me it's an interesting case regarding Mazepin.
Everyone is fallible, and makes mistakes. When mistakes are recognised in others - we tend to find it easy to highlight these mistakes and criticise them for making the mistake(s). It's harder to accept when someone admits they were at fault and move on. An example is in the many of the societal moves to recognise past wrongdoings - once those who committed the wrongdoing are educated and realise they were wrong, apologises and admits so - is retribution served? Or because someone has committed a wrong in the past - are they held to higher standard afterwards? And if so, how long for? |

He's got three weeks with which to reflect on Bahrain, prior to Imola. I think the next few GPs will be pivotal.

IMO, those who are bankrolled to do whatever they want in their lives and don't have to earn it in every sense of the word, end up with an unhealthy attitude to life and sense of entitlement that comes with being above other mortals.
OT, but Lance Stroll has a life of privilege, but more or less every media interview I have seen he comes over as a sulky, entitled kid who enjoys nothing and begrudges 5 minutes of his time to speak to us. I have never seen him overjoyed with what life has dealt him. I am not a big fan of the ultimate pay drivers, not because they might not be good, but because they often have little or no appreciation of what they have and how lucky they are. |

I disagree about Stroll. He comes across as a decent person and certainly hasn’t done anything as bad as the kind of things Mazepin has done.

You haven’t met him then.... I think you would struggle to find anyone on the shop floor at Grove who was sad to see him go

I have to say I'm really looking forward to "Drive to survive" season 4 - there's going to be a full episode of Gunter Steiner swearing every time Mazepin spins, it'll be brilliant

Mazepin needs to learn our car isn’t as good as the Mercedes – Steiner
“Him driving the Mercedes last year, I think he learned something, but he has to learn our car is not as good as a Mercedes,” said Steiner. “I’m very open about that. I’m not trying to hide that for sure the Mercedes is a little bit less temperamental than our car.” Mazepin’s spins “need to be reduced”, Steiner emphasised. “But he’s trying very hard and I guess he’s trying something a little bit too hard. “He needs to find that limit but that’s [for] him to find, not us. That’s for him to find. We can help him doing that, but it’s one of the things as I said before, learning is painful. It comes with pain and at some stage it will hopefully stop and he will be in a good place.” |
