My retirement
As you all may know, I have suffered back problems for several years and recently these problems have got worse, hence my recent switch from pits to startline.
However, even doing “light duties” can be quite painful if I have to stand for several hours. It is for this reason that I have today made the decision to retire from active (i.e. wearing orange) circuit racing duties. This decision has not been taken lightly as my involvement in motorsport has been a major part of my life for the past 16 years. To all of those I have worked with over the past 16 years in various pit lanes I'd like to say thank you all for your help, support, encouragement and friendship. I'm not disappearing entirely though - I will still carry on doing my sprint jobs of course controller and Clerk of the Course as I get the opportunity to sit down on the job! And, of course, it may be that I could perform other circuit related tasks but that is something I need to think about. |

Sheila.... from my point of view it has been a pleasure to have worked with you in the past and a bigger one to be one of those that worked with you on your last day.... You even got to wave the chequered flag ..

Sheila, only 16 years? It seemed much longer
and why did you think a swap from pits to startline would help your back? Rescue driver, that's what you need to do, they never appear to move from their seat or race control telephonist.........hmm discuss |

Sheila, so sorry that you are going but at least you went out shouting yesterday. Oh, I can put all my scrutineering labels back on now.

Sheila - I'm going to miss our chats in the pitlane, some were totally surreal! Who's going to supply those black jelly babies now? Seriously, we MUST keep in touch, and I do hope to hear your voice from the Tower when I'm running around in the Pitlane at Mallory next year.
It's weird, at the Dunlop end of season BTCC party at Thruxton on Sunday I looked up and saw a broomstick hanging down as decoration, are you sure it wasn't yours, getting in early on the party season? Take care, and get that hubby of yours to get you a huge drink (have you cracked open that Champers from storage yet? Now may be the time!) Eddie |

Cheers me dear! You've got my e-mail addy - let's keep in touch that way. I haven't cracked open the champers yet - I'm waiting for the day after Boxing Day when I do my final "active" marshalling duty for the year. |
