Anyone freezing in GTR?

The demo and now the proper game are annoyingly freezing randomly in the menus and sometimes on the race monitor screen.

There doesn't seem to be any logic to when it freezes, though it appears to do it more often if I have altered a graphic setting in Options but never after changing the same setting and it doesn't always freeze.

It properly freezes - no access to Windows whatsoever.

It freezes less if I leave the config on 56hz refresh rather than 72hz. I wouldn't have thought that would make a difference in the menu.

It doesn't freeze at all in the race itself. This is totally backward to other games I've had!

I have:

P4/2.8
512Mb
256Mb Radeon 9600
XP Pro
DirectX 9.0c

No virus checkers running
No background clutter
No hardware conflicts
No joystick plugged in (I have a Momo wheel but I haven't got as far as trying it yet because of this problem)

This seems more than enough ooomph to run the game well.

Apart from the freezes, it seems to take an age to load a race and cursor and effects move a bit sluggishly - not crisp and instant. Is that normal?

I get random CTD's during races but not during testing or in the menus. However I suspect it's down to my PC's 256 mb of RAM being used up and sending GTR into a spazm.

Freeze during remote player loading.

Hi, I have a wee problem, the game (GTR) freezes momentarily as remote players are loaded into the game while in on-line mode. I can be racing along, 100FPS from the gfx card. and freeze. . . . .Then GO!! I'm a little farther along the track. I know the game is fast but faster than light is too fast for me! Has or does anyone else have or had the issue?

thanks in advance dudes.

oh specs;

Athlon 3200 64 bit thingy
Chaintec Z somthing or other
1.5 Gig of grey matter
300 Gig (2 x 150G) SATA Raid0
gigabyte (ATI) Readeon X800 XT optics

with all turned on and up max, I get 60FPS on full grid, 120FPS on me own or maybe a car or two on screen. I have seen 200FPS on one of the tracks! This is such an exilrating game.

What speed internet connection do you have out of interest?

Until I upgraded my machine this week, I got the problem you had, but since I built my new machine yesterday I've been okay.

GTR now runs absolutely fantastic.

AMD Athlon64 3500
ATI RADEON 9800 Pro 256Mb
1Gb (2x 512Mb) TwinX low latency DDR400 RAM (Dual Channel mode)
2 x Seagate Barracuda 160Gb SATA drive

With NTL 3Mb cable internet connection,

I thought my old Athlon 2500 Barton was pretty good, but it has been eclipsed.

It doesnt matter how fast your PC is, when playing online it still has to rely on a relatively slow connection to the server and to other people. Its just down to network speed and lag or latency when talking to each other. Ive not driven on line much as when i did the lag was horrendous and you couldnt drive the circuit properly.

As more and more people get broadband it should improve.

I got BT broadband 2meg (276K up)

Interestingly my flatmate does not get the same problem. (yes two games behind one NAT does work)

I'm off work on monday so i may reinstall to see if that makes any difference.

I think there's mention on gtr-game.com about a patch that sorted out the lag problem.

I can't work out whether the full UK release version incorporates the patch or not.

I'm still getting crashes if anyone wants to suggest anything...?

I uninstalled then reinstalled the game. problem solved!! it seems that when players entered the lobby an error would be detected with some file, the players name showed in red 'LOADING <PLAYER>' i'm not sure why the reinstall cured it, but hey, it worked for me!!!
