Could it be their association with Oreca? It seems that their association with TMG and LMP2 takes precedent over LMP1 privateer.

Disagree, without manufacturers work teams around, rebellion won petit le mans twice and won 2017 WEC lmp2 championship too.
No doubts rebellion is the best lmp private team

Oreca doesn't build the Toyota's. And HDC was in the Rebellion garage during the race. I don't think there's any correlation there with the other Oreca projects.

Well, finally the engines were not a problem, and the cars had a stunning speed while the race.

Don't think so. Hugh de Chaunac was in Rebellion pits (also last year) where before he was at Toyota

Bit of a below par performance by Rebellion, but at least they got both cars to the end

I just find it odd that Rebellion have had what felt like more reliability problems than most of the LMP2 field combined at LM this year. Granted, the issues weren't terminal or even major, but it was enough to keep them from competing head to head with SMP after the halfway mark. Who, after all, got the podium mostly by staying out trouble.

Also ironic given that most of the LMP2 field is built by Oreca, who build Rebellion's cars.

The car looked hugely agile but also very edgy and nervous over the weekend. Quite a few brown trouser moments for the drivers!

After losing the privateers battle at Le Mans, seems that Rebellion Racing is requiring some $$ to fill the second entry in 2019/2020.

Could that mean that they trimmed off a ton of downforce to try and answer to SMP?

SC365 (take it for what it's worth) reports that 2 Rebellions on the grid full time next year is a "50-50" prospect for the 2nd car. This is due to concerns over how to budget for next season given the phase in of the Hypercar LMP1 regs for 2020.

Same article also says that Rebellion preferred DPI-influenced rules over the hypercar influenced regs adopted.

They probably preferred dpi because they could do what they did now, take an lmp2 chassis and 'upgrade' it. Of course that would save them money over having to make a brand new car.

Exactly that, they don't have an unlimited budget, there's lots of money but it should be spent wisely

It also has to be remembered that Rebellion are down 2, maybe 3 drivers at least on a full time basis. Laurent is now a Toyota factory driver and might get race rides depending on if Buemi has to do FE races next season that clash with WEC races. Jani is leaving Rebellion after being called up for Porsche's FE team, and Lotterer is considering focusing on FE over WEC, meaning he might not be at Rebellion at least full time next year.

Agree, jani and lotterer likely will drop WEC to focus only on FE programs.

Likely rebellion will first ensure to settle a paying drivers car, then they'll try to recruit 3 pro drivers for the other car.

Laurent is definitely out. He will be driving for Signatech Alpine in the WEC unless he is required by Toyota. His contract probably prohibits him from driving against Toyota in the WEC. Ant Davidson said during LM week that his Toyota contract means no LMP1 for him. Not sure when his contract ends.

I meant race rides with Toyota, given that there's at least two clashes with Formula E that Buemi has to contend with.

Rebellion is probably down half their drivers/one car's worth already based on that.

I do hope they manage to get the two car effort going again next year, they are a formidable team. They were really unlucky with the Gibson engine in Quali. ACO really need to pay a little bit more attention to privateer efforts, they have always been such a large part of endurance racing and LeMans

My fear is they are desappointed by the evolution of the regulation (they have stated it). They have been investing in endurance now for a while and do they see a future for them in the future? We will see in the coming weeks what they will do.

Peugeot could re-enter top-level sports car racing with a customer-based Hypercar built by ORECA and run by Rebellion Racing.
