Truck racing...?

Hi guys,

What ever happened to truck racing?

I work for a magazine publishing company in Brisbane, and among the titles we produce is a trucking magazine called Owner//Driver. My editor wanted me to track down what's happening on the truck racing scene...but I haven't heard anything about it for years.

Remember when Rodney Crick was a minor celebrity? What happened? Is there still any sort of championship in place? Does anyone know of any trucks racing around Australia? What are all those drivers with their hotted-up trucks up to these days?

I'd welcome any information/thoughts. Post a reply or drop me a line.

Thanks,

Jason Whittaker

Check this link, truck racing is having something of a revival this year with races so far at Mallala, Barbagello and Oran Park.

Thanks for the lead, White Knight.

I just had a chat to the President of Australian Supertruck Racing, Stan Seton. He got control of the rights from the Power Tour after they "stuffed it up."

As you say, they've had events at Mallala, Oran Park and Barbagallo this year. Events at Winton and Calder have been cancelled due to some sort of dispute.

But they're working on a full series for next year. Stan says he expects upwards of 20 competitors and a TV deal is close to being signed.

So truck racing is back, apparently. Good for them.

Thanks again,

Jason Whittaker

Some of the best racing you'll see actually. The sight of these things charging down to a first corner bellowing the black smoke from their stacks and the sideways action is great value for money. It says it all when the falg marshalls posts are vactaed prior to their races. Smart move...

ah yes I am one of the few on this board who loves TRuck racing
be it FIA race and supertrucks
or Brasil Formula TRuck
this is one brilliant and eye popping type of racing.
too bad support seems down a bit in the super race truck class in FIA
what with VW entering new this year is nice, but 3 Bugyra's that there is half the field.
the MAN dominated Racetruck class seems ok but not on the same "polish and shine" level the SRT class is.
have you guys seen Formula truck ? that has HUGE fields and Mega crowds- good racing, cool trucks too
