John, Fred
I'd hate you to think you're the only ones interested in the idea. I think this sort of event would be fantastic - though who would organise it, and -especially - where the money to do so would come from, I don't know! |

Thanks David. I'm at the Tour de Espana having a look and I think it could work in the UK with enough support from the British historic fraternity. I might just have to take the gamble......

Fred: Please no Index of Performance type event.
Just plain who's the fastest with pre 1966 cars; 1 race per day and 1 or 2 hill climbs. No rough roads, good food, good hotels for 4 days with some 150-200 miles per day. One pre-war grid and the rest post war. |

Sounds about the right formula, although I think there should be a major award for both the scratch and Index winners.

I would have thouhgt Julius or Carol Spagg would be the obvious two names to come to mind to organise it - question is whether they would!
If the timing and price was right I would certainly look at it..... |

Fred your the man .WRC and all that stuff with your mates.Us with the proper cars do not want to mix with Hans, Ray,etc.until the bar opens but they will probably go to bed early and not buy a round.Pre war cars would be in the regularity group not competition as Liege Rome they would certainly not be in the competion section

This sounds like a great idea John and brilliant fun. I am sure that an event of this kind would also attract significant press and sponsor appeal. Also nice to invite the continentals to our neck of the woods for a change...

I just happen to be organising something like this on the North Island for March next year. 4 days and 3 circuits. But it is not as competitive as the Tour Auto. The road sections are touring and the circuit sections are more regularity like the Eiffel Klassik regularity. If anybody in NZ is interested, PM or e-myther me.

Simon: dates are incredibly difficult. We think we will be two weeks after Spa. From 2006 onwards May/June might be better but it would not be possible to organize a quality event in time for that time next year. We are determined to do this properly.
John: thanks. Unfortunately it is our money! We believe it's worth taking a risk. Watch this space! |

My concern would be that no one would want to risk their cars the week before Goodwood and that the week after Goodwood is the week before Spa....

Different cars.Spa is 17/9 and Goodwood is presumably 9/9.Ideal time for the normal people like me is first week Sept as you also have clash with VSCC Donnington

Great, looks like this may actually get going!
John you'll have the first sip from the Champagne Magnum on the podium!!!!! I agree to have a pre-war regularity section and scratch comp. for the '50's and '60's cars. |

Would no one want to race 20s and 30s cars if they had their own grid?

I very much doubt it although selected pre-war cars in the 46to 56 groupe would be workable as next years Le Mans Duncan Wiltshire race.i would think no more than a max of 14 pre 40's in the whole event about 10% of the entry.

Thanks. I wouldn't want to stop someone who wanted to be in competition use an older car. It would be the only event of its kind in the year when that could happen. The BMW/Talbot battle over 4 days would be fun!
