New Chief Marshal
Please join me in sending congratulations to Peter Scillitoe who has become Chief Marshal for the BRSCC SE Centre. Peter often adds his views to threads within Ten-Tenths and is a very knowledgeable and likeable man. In true Sillytoes fashion he was seen at Brands Hatch yesterday sporting his 'Diamond Geezer' socks!
Many thanks go to Alec Spooner who has been the Centres Chief Marshal for many years but who has decided now is the time to ease his marshalling committments. Alec will be sorely missed by us all, but has promised to attend as many meetings as he feels comfortable with. The marshals raffle was indeed a sad occasion last night as Alec thanks his many friends for their support over the years. To both Alec and Peter the very best of luck in your new roles. Stephen. |

Being present at last nights raffle I can only agree that it was a sad occasion. Its the first time I have ever seen Alec stuck for words, even if only for a few seconds. Alec will be missed but I am sure that Peter will be a worthy replacement.
I also would like to wish the both of the the best of luck. Stephen now Peter has taken his new role we will have to call him Mr Sillytoes Sir. |

...... or anything else that comes to mind!!!!!! Believe he'll answer to anything at the moment!!!!
And as well as the reception I received from Peter yesterday, can I also thank all my BRSCC friends who I met at Brands yesterday. Your warmth is much appreciated. Saying that, the physical challenge of 50 steps downwards, a 75 metre sloping tunnel, 30 steps to ground level, then another 30 steps up to the first floor of race control is quite an effort, especially having to do it again in reverse to get back afterwards. Any chance you might find an easier way in the future? Cheers all Steve Last edited by Stephen Green; 31 Mar 2003 at 12:17. |

You could have gone through the tunnel from the paddock to the centre?

That's an even longer walk, and there weren't any golf karts working this time. Easiest thing would have been to take the car through, but don't think I was allowed to, so didn't even try.

I would also like to add my congratulations to Peter and a sad farewell to Alec. That was quite the round of applause and cheers he got yesterday. I have only been marshalling a short amount of time but I could see the hard work and effort put in by Alec, he will be missed. Peter has quite an act to follow but I'm sure it will be one that he will do very well.

What a great shame that Alec has (sort of)hung up his flags...He was extremly helpful in sorting out my visits (and Bernie)to Croix etc so my hats off to the man it has been greatly appreciated and a shame I couldn't have been there to give him a big hand (I was up at Mallory). As I now get down on my knees to bow to his master Lord Silly toes I must congratulate his new title and hope he can emulate Alec in all of his doings-I'm sure he will be the MAN for the job. Well done to both. (PS: when's the next Croix meeting....!)

After nagging Alex and Peter for years to come to Long Beach, now look what's happened! I tried to tell Ceci, the Chief Marshal in Long Beach about the changes but thought better of it! I've known Alex ever since I started this rediculous hobby and I'll miss his comments and gentle, but firm dressing downs! Good luck mate, and I'll see you don't get up to too much mischief in California. As for Scillitoe! He would be greatly offended to be called "Lord". Much more likely to respond to "Comrade" After he tried to pick a fight with the second finisher on the Old Crocks run last year! I can say that I've marshalled with the BRSCC Chief Marshal in a rhododendron bush at Crystal Palace! Beat THAT Green!

We were standing on a pallett on the outside of a quite fast bend with only our experience and strong sense of survival protecting us. All was going well until Gerry Marshall came out in Mk 11 Escort - sideways! Peter & I were moderately concerned. Rumour has it that it could be back on next year! Yes please!
