Rockingham Stages, 5/6 December
Anyone else doing this? I'm going on Saturday - got sign-on stuff through yesterday and it's practically a half day, as sign-on doesn't start until 11am!
Looking forward to an entertaining day (if cold). It'll be my first foray into a rally environment but I've tempered the pain by doing it at a circuit that I know already |

Can't do it this one but did the saturday last year-also my one & only rally. I had a pretty good time-not much to do apart from replace cones during the stage & move bales & arrows around between the stages. I found it quite odd not having flags or fire bottles-someone dumped oil in my sector & I could do nothing as cars slid on it!
You can get incredibly close to the cars though-I could have reached out & touch them-plus the 2 stages in the dark are spectacular. Have fun! |

I'm going as a spectator.
Don't forget if you've done 6 or more Rockingham meetings this season, you & a guest get to use the marshals' hospitality suite including lunch & hot drinks. You need to contact Cat Lund (cat.lund@rockingham.co.uk) with name & address to claim your tickets & vouchers. |

Just got back from the first day (unfortunately I'm not doing Sunday) - not too wet, not too cold, but just right (although it did p*** down after 4pm!)
Having never attended a rally meeting before whether single venue, forest or anywhere in between, I can safely say that the drivers are, to a person, nutters - in the best possible way. Interesting to see the Rock with cars going THE WRONG WAY though! It'll take me ages to get my head around that! Unfortunately the fourth stage ended up being cancelled after one car (Escort RS Turbo I think) straight lined a 90 degree corner and ran into a concrete barrier, and was then collected by the following car (Mitsubishi Evo, maybe?) which did the same thing. Minor injuries sustained by the driver/co-driver in the first car, I believe, but nothing too serious. I hope they'll be OK - the Escort didn't look too well, though. Probably something I'll go and do again, but I can't see me being a full-on woodsmarshal Hope all you jammy sods with hospitality enjoyed yourselves! |

As one of those 'jammy sods', I did enjoy seeing Rockingham from a totally different viewpoint. Have to agree though, seeing cars going 'WD', especially in the dark, was a tad disconcerting. I think that the Rally Stages really show how versatile 'The Rock' is and being able to see the whole course from the grandstand has to be a spectators dream. Mind you there were several times when certain sections of the course resembled the M25 on a Friday rush hour. Thank you Rockingham for acknowledging your regular marshals.

Another jammy sod here. It seemed very strange just sitting watching but at least I was dry. I felt for those of you out in the pouring rain.
Many thanks to Rockingham for recognising the efforts of marshals during the season & laying on the hospitality. |

Did you catch the pirouetting threesome at turn P (normally pit entry) in SS3? We started to award style and technical points after the first One was a peach - full 360, followed by a full chat flick to get back the right way. Impressive stuff! |

A few drivers made a complete horlicks of that corner. It was difficult to see exactly what was going on once it got completely dark but we could see lights pointing in the wrong direction / pirouetting. The hairpin at pit exit claimed a few victims too & it was amusing watching them trying to get back the correct side of the cones. |

I really enjoyed getting to watch the action, like others said, it took a while to get my head round the track as they weren't using standard corners... Also, there seemed to be a lot of speeding in the pit lane!
Big thanks to Rockingham for sorting out the tickets and the food. Look forward to the Dunlop Great and British! Bez |
