Good to see in any case but I'm not sure what there target audience is... may as well be F1 coverage with prettier cars. I'd love to see the same thing done at clubbie/grass roots level... M&Ms series Scratchin' was crap production and had sooo much potential. |

I have sky on in the background in the office and there was a group 4 race on it but as i dont have any volume on my dealing desk I dont know what race it was! Cars ranged from 911's through to an Attila! Could it have been Piper's SA races?

It has been interesting reading the comments, and it has been worthwhile to see that many of my feelings have already been expressed. I came across the programme by chance on Dave (on Freeview). It is good to have any motorsport on TV which is accessible (ie you do not have to subscribe), but I will not worry if I do not see any more of the programmes. The cars are nice, even wonderful and I am grateful for the "old boys club and yuppies" (chunder) allowing me to see their cars at various historic meetings. I did enjoy most of the chats with the drivers/owners, but the coverage of the racing was very poor and amateurish. I believe that school children could have produced a better film.

I think you'll find that the majority of the so called "Old boys club" are just normal people like the rest of us, well rest of you They just seem to have a tad more disposable income than some of us do.
You just need to go and talk to them and you'll find out that they are genuine people with a common interest, fast cars, and they will always treat you as an equal. |

That is why the interviews were the best part of the programme that I saw, not the track coverage which was poor. I am looking forward to seeing as much historic racing as possible this season and as an old 'fogey' can more easily relate to the cars of the 50s and 60s.

Why is it that the grass is always greener etc.Ok so maybe some of them have bigger wallets than us but reading between the lines a lot prepare and deliver the cars to the circuits for there drives.Nothing like a full blooded GT car in close racing, absolutely fantastic, lets see if we cant find a way to join them rather than knocking them, also,my favorite car,the eleven.
When is the next program. |

I agree! Hard bunch of critics on here.
I was fortunate enough to have their cameras in my car for a couple of events and Alexander and his team are as passionate about historic racing as we all are. A great bunch. And to describe the people shown as the "old boys club" is nonsense - they are just normal people like the rest of us who have a common interest - racing historic cars. Indeed quite a few people on this board appear. I think they did a fantastic job and the opening sequence of the Cobra at full belt with that music playing had the hairs standing up on the back of the neck. Next episode is shown 4 times this weekend and is from the Silverstone Classic: 1. GT Racer * Sun 20 Jan * 13:00-14:00 * Dave UK: The series about classic car racing here pulls up at the Silverstone Classic Historic Sports Car Club. We follow the motoring exploits of this exclusive and often obsessive group. 2. GT Racer * Sun 20 Jan * 14:00-15:00 * Dave +1 3. GT Racer * Sun 20 Jan * 19:00-20:00 * Dave 4. GT Racer * Sun 20 Jan * 20:00-21:00 * Dave +1 Roger |

Perhaps you should attend one of these meetings and see for yourself the cross section of enthusiasts that race in this series, We prepare our own car in the garage at the bottom of the garden, we tow it to the meetings ourselves, race, and then tow it home and start the prep for the next race, hardly old boys club or yuppie style, and yes I do love racing my Elite, by the pure nature of the car we are not going to win anything, but we do it for fun.we have made many friends in this series from all walks of life, its not all oldboys club and yuppies !!

When I was asked to write up whole meetings rather than just FJ I found it a daunting prospect but as a result of this I have had to talk to all the series organisers and a selection of drivers. My point is that almost without exception I was welcomed and my questions were answered honestly and explanations given when requested. I did not find any difference between the driver with money to throw at a car and those on a shoestring, the vast majority were passionate about their sport and were more than happy to discuss the finer points of their race, preparation and how they came into motorsport. It is not about money - you find jerks in all walks of life and all levels of our sport but lucky for us they are a very small minority and are quickly recognised and avoided!

Remember the progreamme only featured a few peple and my opinion is largely based around that and attending many classical events in recent years and trying to check out the cars whil wading past Winnebagos and Bentleys!!
Yes my comments can be taken as comment but I was not insinuating ALL drivers are the same. As for wills, your attack deserves nothing. Typical of teh breed, |

I found this by accident on Dave when flicking through the channels last week.....for someone that doesn't really like historic cars and racing I found it quite good! Hopefully will be back in time to catch the Silverstone episode tomorrow evening.
The circuit looked epic fun too.... |

I'll be there to drink with you Esper, hopefully there'll not be too many moans this year.I have to agree with Falcie et al,I know quite a few of the racers featured and guess what, they are all bloody nice blokes, ready for a bit of banter as MOST racers are.Just because some of them are perhaps a little more privileged than some, that is no excuse to knock them.

I think we have got off the subject here but would like too include my 2 pennies for what its worth.I am a motor mechanic who loves motor racing and i am very fortunate to have raced lots of cars that i could only dream of owning."This is not down to any skill or talent " just the fact that i can prepare a car transport to the circuit and run the car at the track. The so called yuppies that own the cars are very generous in letting me drive as well as paying me to look after the cars and for me its a lot more fun than changing a clutch in a rusty old escort or welding up holes in horrable Japanise cars.We are fortunate in that we have some wonderfull customers who do appreciate what we do for them and i like to think we do a good job in return. So fair play to to all you wealthy owners whithout you a lot of us team owners would not exsist and life would be very boring indeed.

Well said Delta - without the bottomless pockets of wealthy enthusiasts the history of motorsport would be lacking present day examples of the off-beat, the expensive and day to day cars that no one valued a mere thirty years ago!
