Further to my last, I have had another text from Gerard and he has not been well but not sure whether COVID or something else. He is very tired but he says, "not yet listed as a priority". I have passed on our best wishes.

I am happy to report that the only ill effect that I have had from the Oxford vaccine injection is that my upper arm feels "sore", similar to bruising. I was actually warned about this as it is a known reaction for those that take daily Aspirin, as I do. Although not a blood thinner like Warfarin, Aspirin does "coat" your blood cells to make it flow more easily.

This "could" have far reaching consequences regarding kit cars !
Jaguar Land Rover have sued Karl and Ann-Christine, for copyright infringement after building a C-type replica in their home garage in Gothenburg Sweden, despite decades of global public approval of the replica industry from Jaguar themselves. A staggeringly uneven battle between a global corporation and a retired pensioner couple, who basically have put everything on the line. After a shocking verdict by the Stockholm District Court in December, Karl and Ann-Christine are found guilty of copyright infringement and their privately built C-type replica is deemed illegal and subject to destruction. Furthermore, they are required to pay Jaguar Land Rover’s legal fees of £450 000 and damages, which in effect will drive the pensioners out of their home. |

Yes I saw that. It's copywrite law so not sure if it has consequences outside Sweden. Seems very draconian though.

Can you imagine if Ford took that approach with the Lotus Cortina?
Baub, I believe it is a company of Indian origin. Tata for now. |

For context, a subsidiary of JLR (Jaguar Classics) are releasing a continuation run of C-Types. This legal case is to prevent others manufacturing rival C-Types.

By the way, been a long while off, Merry Christmas and a healthy new year to you all, must admit it hasn't been a very good start to the year for my family, lost one nephew to the virus and brother Robin who resides in Pontremeli, Italy, taken ill with heart trouble and lost a cousin to the virus. Changing the subject to a better note, spent 4 days polishing the wheels on the XK, fingers now 1/2 inch shorter, new servo fitted, just got to wait for the snow to go to test, just got the bulls eyes for the heater on the Cortina so that is all but finished, and as my racing days are finished got to convert the Escort back to a road car for my daughter. Think I've rambled enough, healthy new year everyone. |

Indeed, but it does set a precedent. As Joe alludes, it would devastate historic racing if Ford were to start building "continuation" Cobras, or GT40s. At the moment these are licensed to certain companies like GTD etc.
It really applies to prototype vehicles. Lynx D Types could also fall foul because of the continuation D Types. Although if Jaguar has previously licenced Lynx I could see the law taking a dim view if they went back on that agreement. |

I reckon they must be a bit bored down at Colnbrook - after confirming by text yesterday that medical requirements were being waived - I'm 70 and therefore should need one, but for some reason getting a doctor's appointment is a bit tricky at present - and being invited to submit an application by email, I sent my race licence application off last night. Just had email to advise that its been processed and will be despatched within 3 days! (Glad I didn't pay for express processing )
On the Jaguar front, I note that various versions of the tale are being bandied about, including one that the "poor pensioners" had in fact an order book for a further 6 replicas. Who knows? It can't do JLR's standing much good in the enthusiast community. Talking of which, there appears to be an uprising in Porsche Club GB with an EGM being called to seek to throw out the governing Board, allegedly after the North West England organiser was "dismissed". Talk about wanting to get back to being an enthusiasts car club, rather than a faceless corporation intent on branding...... Must be something in the air! |

The Swedes can be remarkably intolerant at times. For a country with a long term reputation for personal freedoms. One suspects the freeedoms are fine as long as they are more social then personal. |

I see Landrover are doing something along the same lines with the old style Defenders - for around £200k. Has the world gone mad? Or is this just their setting up operation to have a go at Ineos for copyright in relation to the Grenadier? |

It used to be that a design copyright only lasted 25 years in the UK . But a recent change in copyright law has confused things a bit . I have a feeling that these legal challenges from JLR etc are just to frighten small companies with possible legal costs of defending something they might actually be legally allowed to do. |
