New F1 commentator

David Croft is taking over as the main commentator on the BBC's coverage of Formula One. Maurice Hamilton reverts back to the expert summariser role, while Murray Walker will have an involvement in some interviews and features for 5 Live Formula One.

As part of the beefed-up coverage I believe Friday practice will go out live on 5 Live Sports Extra in addition to qualifying, while the race coverage will remain on the main 5 Live station.

Here is a link to Croft's profile. During this week you can also hear him commentating on the World Darts Championship on BBC TV.

Nintendo has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!

Five Live has done since 1994, when it launched, and long before that on Radio Five and Radio Two and their predecessors.

That's good news. Now if ITV could just do something about James Allen.....

Toby Moody is definitely into cars, as a regular commentator at and committee member for Shelsley Walsh hillclimb.

I never listen to Five Live's F1 coverage unless it's qualifying. Just a shame ITV haven't realised that James Allen is very unpopular among listeners.

No doubt there is some petition online somewhere to get him ousted which will do no good at all...

If you're not an Allen fan, surely you would be better watching the race with the sound off and the radio on?

As much as I dislike James Allen's commentary by listening to the radio, one would then lose Martin Brundle's annalysis. I guess this just proves that you can't have your cake and eat it.

That's the best idea that's been posted on this subject for ages. Toby Moody and Julian Ryder are the best commentary team on TV.

Toby Moody and Julian Ryder are very good I agree, however I prefer Martin Haven and Gareth Rees. They both have a huge depth of knowledge and are both just as enthusiastic and knowledgable as anyone out there. IMO.

I still recommend Ben Edwards for you Brits... when I got CART in English through Eurosport in the late 90s.. well, he was just great!

Ben Edwards also did F1 in Eurosport in the 90's, and when the PPV F1 channel ran as well. He's definataly better than Allan.

Since the F1 moved to ITV it has been "dumbed down"

my understanding however is that Murray Walker will be doing some extra progs, in the style of last years Maurice Hamiltons show. These will be available on bbc radio player. its just the actual coverage that isn't allowed to be broadcast outside of UK
