What's going on with the new renault engine? I heard that their was a problem and that they had another company manufacture the faulty piece but i haven't heard anything else. I really want renault to do well, but i guess we'll just have to wait for a few more GP

I think a lot of ppl have given up hope on the Renault. Not this year, not the next, but THEN we will have an engine. In just enough time for JB to leave renault!!

I think you will find Renault are testing their new 2.2 Diesel engine in the Benetton this year for their new laguna and not as thought the V6 3.0 as expected.
This would account for the poor straight line performance but why their bothering with pit stops is a mystery as the engine can average 55mpg at a constant 75mph!!! |

Renault will do fine next year when the team is re-badged. The big boys at Renault don't want to become a team that performs worce than it's previous incarnation, much like what happened to Jaguar.

Renault will sort it for 2002 - plus remember that the Benetton chassis is seriously wrong. Button told us at testing that they would either revert to the 2000 chassis or design a completely new one - we heard this week that a new chassis will be ready by the time the F1 circus reaches Canada.
(Plus they'd better get the engine sorted - I don't want my Minardi-Nissans down at the back... ) |

They went to the 111 degree to lower the CG, but in doing so they ended up with a configuration which, so I believe, has a serious imbalance problem. This imbalance seems to have caused them to limit the revs and perhaps also has affected the chassis.
Anyone else has any input regarding this aspect? |

I have heard that the engine is not 111' but more like 90-100'. Renault have just came up with the name as it has a nice ring to it! Two major problems, 1- A over hyped Technical Director who has yet to perform in F1 and 2- A dud of engine that sounds like my Ride On Lawn Mower. Fix these two problems and you might score the occasional point or two...

Are they using the engine w/o pneumatic valves? Didn't they start that? I wonder if that has anything to do with it?
