drbob's Bathurst 1000 Group C Mazda RX7 racers
This was my first RX7. A genuine period car built by Gerry Burges and raced at Bathurst in 1982 and 1983, as well as various rounds of the Australian Touring Car Championship.
It was converted to a group A car and raced at Bathurst in 1985 |

My next Group C RX7 I still have, all the rest have gone to other homes.
This one was initially raced at Bathurst in 1981 and 1982 by John Duggan. In 1983 at Bathurst it was driven by Terry Ryan and Graham Storah. |

Those Group C RX7s were good little jiggers and competitive too - although they struggled for outright race-winning pace at Bathurst.
Thanks for sharing Dr Bob - glad to see that you still have one of your old cars. |

Really good looking race car! Do you use a downdraft Weber as seen on a B16 Chevron if I'm right? Olivier Cazalières used to race one in France I guess, prep was Equipe Europe (Yvan Mahé).

Looks fabulous. Since MiniMM became an RX8 owner I've come to appreciate these rotary wonders. Very much of their time, their voracious thirst and oil/fuel burn does not make them suitable for the 21st century, which is probably one of the reasons I love them.
We're still interested in doing the CSCC series for them. Being strapped to the sound of those rotors thrashing down a race track really appeals. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk |

Not mentioning the chassis I always felt very confident in many Mazdas, including the MX5 recently. OK, with some alterations I must admit…

As well as the RX8 "series within a series" that CSCC run as Max says, there are a couple of RX7s running or intending to run in Future Classics - indeed one got pole position for our very wet Donington season finisher - but DNF'd in the race.....
Got a soft spot for them as I co-drove one on a few International rallies back in the 80s - it was a competitive car in its class, and generally reliable. |

sorry Andy it's been a murderous few days on track and I haven't kept up with my correspondence. I've had some details and am currently trying to see how I can get it to fit into my life. It appears the engine doesn't run at all ATM.

No problem. I didnt realise that the engine was u/s, but i did wonder at that price. My understanding is that rebuilt engines can be had for circa £2k. Still a cheap car at £3.25k i suppose!!

Deffo is, but ATM i just know it would sit unfinished in the drive until I was forced to scrap it. My life is so topsy turvy that I need a turn key project.
