Bowlby is a genious, no doubt. What is maddening is that he didn't try to utilize any of his knowledge towards evolutionary solutions for the problems he identifies. It's all or nothing with these guys.

There's a DELTAWING discussion thread over in the Sportscar forum.

The problem is, in negotiations, it's a pretty safe rule of thumb that you will get less than your initial demand. Therefore, if your initial push is for just that small evolutionary step, you may not get anything of value out of the negotiation in the end.
Also, the simple truth is that an "all or nothing", revolutionary solution is honestly what is NEEDED. And for all the bashing it gets, if the DeltaWing completes a lap in anger on an oval, and particularly on a road course, that's most of the naysayers' arguments out the window right there. |

How safe would the Deltawing be if it were t-boning another Deltawing?

Sidepods don't provide a great deal of side-impact protection, especially the ones on a long-outdated chassis, like the out-going Dallara. That being the case, if the DeltaWing has a proper, up-to-date driver cell, I think it could be at least as good as what we'll get with the DW12. Also, with significantly reduced mass, impact forces will be equivalently decreased, whether with another vehicle or the barriers.

Having had the unfortunate experience of losing a Miata when I T-boned somebody who blew a stop sign across a State highway in front of me, I can tell you it's amazing how gentle the deceleration can be if a car has a big nose which is mostly filled with air, functioning as a big crumple zone. I expect this would behave something similar.

Linky to the Sportscar forum, complete with video of the DW (not to be confused with the DW12) in action:
http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...128723&page=36 Apparently it turns out the car can turn corners after all! (Who would have thought that a handful of highly intelligent racing car engineers knew what they were doing.... as opposed to the hundreds of doomsayers on various internet message boards who were convinced the thing would roll over like a Reliant Robin ) |

Come on over! As you'll see from the tail-end of the thread (and some of the rest if you have the stamina to read it!), we could do with an injection of good sense and useful fact!
