That's a shame. He is one of the last action heroes at the moment.

He's had a great career and richly deserves a happy retirement. WHo's to say he won't get bored in a year or two and return to the track? Still, even with Laurent gone, ALbers in F1 and Smokin' Jo already retired, the DTM is hardly lacking stars.

I don't would call Albers a star.

A shame to lose Aiello - a big loss for motorsport IMO. That said, if as he says he is tired of the competition then it is defintly the right thing to do. Maybe we will see him again, maybe not. Id like to think we havent seen the last of him personally, maybe in a few years if a DTM masters series ever materalises he could appear there.

At the end of day, he walks away in one piece and on top of his game. I've been a fan of his since the F3000 days and wished he would have made to F1 or Champcars. He was one of the reasons I started following Touring Cars. He's a great driver, and will ne missed. But, you can't be sad, because he is leaving on his own terms. Therefore, we should be happy for him and wish him luck.

1999 was the first year I followed the BTCC from start to end and I'm glad I saw Aiello in person, a driver who has won all the major European Touring Car titles. Truly amazing that he came, learnt and won the BTCC in the same year.

I was just dissapointed in the last few years Aiello's had with Opel, the results have been so poor. Surprised he's retiring, he's not old by any means. It must be there is nothing on the horizon for the future so he's taken this opportunity to bow out.

I don´t understand why manufacturers don´t offer him a contract, he has been one of the best ones touring car drivers since 1993.
I wish him luck.

It's a real shame to lose Aiello, like they pointed out in the commentary in today's DTM race his CV is one of the most impressive around.

Racing drivers rarely retire for long though. Just look at Mika.
