D’age d’Or Dijon 8-10/6
There can be a Pre War Sports Car race at this meeting if they get six entries from UK in next 48 hours.
It’s a Peter Auto meeting along with CER ,Sixties stuff etc. It’s a great opportunity to race at a superb circuit with plenty of track time. All the usual MRL type cars invited plus the Le Mans Classic Entries It’s a good way to set yourself up for a possible LMC acceptance in 2020 That’s long term planning Ideal as no Silverstone Festival meeting race this year |

Some grids look really healthy, others a bit thin to say the least !! We will be there with the yellow GTAm in HTC ....... just waiting for the gearbox to arrive ... same swop on the Ti Super, so garage a bit full at the moment. Yes, the orbital trainer is still for sale ..... little used & can deliver for collection at Dijon !! Martin |

Mmm, a lot of notable absentees, especially from the U.K.! Is it the Le Mans Classic effect, with that being only a month after? Relatively poor entry in CER2 in particular.... Euro F2 and ‘The Greatest’ are down even on their normal low numbers.
Will, if those other 356s are as noisy as yours, I’ll be packing extra strength earplugs for the pitwall..... BTW, from previous experience, bring mosquito repellent...... |

MartinH if you had some crank issues few years ago at Spa, I guess we were neighbors then (black Capri MKII).
Mike, does your SLR still have a close relationship with a french TVR? Cant believe it! Is your mosquito repellent of help in this matter? |

Good to see some money has been spent! The new garages are very plush, with toilets (including hangers and bench for driver to change) included. Sad that the old cafeteria has gone, as that always seemed very popular. The hospitality for this meeting is upstairs above the new garages, and a great improvement over the previous marquees all the way over at the other side of pit straight! No rain today- yet Had a big thunderstorm middle of day yesterday when the cars and equipment were in the open. Had to bail the B8 out...... |

Yep, Le cavallino cafeteria was a great place but things have to go. "Your" friend's TVR seems out of shape and the mighty 356 started lately the Qualy. Drivers stuck in the new toilets not wanting to pay for the key?

Best top speeds are sometimes interesting to look at. A Mustang previously entered as a Grp1 made 213,9 kmh. Not bad…
Elva: 217,7 SLR: 193,2 and "THE" P 356:177 km/h.May be the reason why Mike finds it noisy, it stays longer in the straight! |

Sadly we broke a drive shaft on lap 5 of free practice, so had to set too and swap the gearbox out having of course first removed the engine first (!) in time for Quali. If was touch and go whetherer we would get any laps in at all, as we were still bolting the engine in as the rest of the grid was going out. We made it with 15 mins of quali left.....I am sure Mike was delighted to be deafened only for a few laps!

Here’s what the Stephens family were up to during qually- a fantastic effort to get the car on track before the end!

A good training for mechanics. If my memory serves, the 356 gearbox is "firmly" installed in the chassis…*Isn't a kind of U shape bracket maintaining the gearbox while reinforcing the tunnel? Anyway I hope the bad things of the seasons are behind you.

Yes spot on Gerard...getting the engine out is the easy bit, the gearbox is integral to the back end of the car!
With the only 2 “mechanics” being me and Dad we were well and truly “trained”.....slept well last night for sure! We have got a few hours before the race today,so can go back over the car and finesse the stuff that was rushed yesterday, fingers crossed for a quiet day!! |

Will, we have a proverb saying something like: "when s... happens during practice, the race will be quiet!" Hope its works for you and your dad. Have fun.
By the way, from Mike's excellent picture, your team could be a french one: two working hard under the car, two watching! An please, put some tyre valve caps, they are mandatory in some categories… |

Some of our guys fell foul of the "no dust cap" rule at Charade. Cue frantic removal of dust caps from trucks and trailers... Also, for the first time in my experience, people were told to route header tank and gearbox breathers into the catch tank.

What is the benefit obtained from fitting dust caps to valves on racing cars?
Is there a potential de-benefit? |

When working on tyre pressure in test or qually, not having dust caps makes the job a lot quicker, but I know they are mandatory sometimes so we always use them. Using 2 people to do pressures speeds things up enough....
Anyway, the 60s result! SLR 10th o/a 1st in GT3 and 1st in under 2.5 litre. Well happy with that! Oh, and we’ve now been told that the Lotus 11 that pushed us down to third at Spa was in our class by mistake...... Bit late now! Also excellent result for the Stephens 356 after their Q problems, and also good to see the Elva GT160 finish strongly, albeit after losing time having to change tyres half way during their driver change. Looking forward to the BBQ tonight at the aero club. Wonder if they will fire the Sea Fury up again. It gave a great display just before our race.... |

Benefit? Probably someone pretended that at speed the rotation of the wheel tends to move air out from the tyre. When air goes out often it means puncture ! To route any breather to the catch tank makes sens if we dont follow this common sens rule, we'll have to remove any coolant from our rads, its the case in motorbike racing I think.
Anyway, the SLR seems to finish 10 overall and the "new" gearbox allowed the 356 to finish 20th overall. BLP for the Porsche is 1'44"3 -really amazing being that slow in the long straight-, 1'41"19 for the SLR. Congrats to all! Did you enjoy Mike and will and others? |

All the hard work was certainly worth it!
I think Dijon is a great circuit. Round the twiddly bits the 356 is an absolute hoot to drive, we just loose out to the bigger engined cars on the drag up the hill to the start line... |

Phiew I dont remember such a penalty board during a PA event! Mosquito season, may be? Six jump start with penalties going from 3 to 6 minutes! Penalty for incorrect refueling going from 1 lap to 5 minutes… Now that's done, I guess it will be open bar for the rest of the season…

Mike, your racers got many SC. First B 8 and 12th overall just after a fast Pantera I guess?
