GPL Help?

OK, I have had GPL for a while and have never been really successful. I'm not interested in the online stuff, but would love some help with hotlapping. I just did Watkins Glen and went from a 2:15 to a 2:27 to a 1:55. So, what percentage of me is talent and how can I improve my general driving skills? All answers in ENGLISH PLEASE! I'm not good with aetup stuff so don't confuse me! Thanks for all help in advance.

Do you have a wheel and pedals?

That would be the first thing I'd suggest...

anything under 1:20 would be good for a first timer with a wheel.

How do you turn the leaner off? (keyboard sterring)

Rather important on the straight because I can't go flat out beacuse it weaves all over the place.

first bit of advice. get yourself a joystick, if not a wheel. it is essential. absoloutely and utterly essential.

It's in the control options, unfortunately I have a key board and I can't change the option for some reason, as a result the car viers to one side.

ex keyboarder to the rescue
play incar .
play with GP cars
no aids
use manual gearbox
change your keys configuration use a hex-editor to change from the keypad to a more confortable position . like the GP2/3/4 keys

but . better buy a wheell . it will take u months before you'll be able to really do laps on every circuit with the keyboard . and you'll have to learn all over again with the wheell

Yeah I really want one any tips on ones to buy, the last PC steering wheel I saw was a collection of Ferrari wheels and a big range in price.
In computer game shops I can't find any for the PC.

I can't really recommend a wheel as such, as you'll be lucky to get hold of what I've got now.... , but, from past experience, I would recommend anything by Logitech. But, if you can stretch to it, make sure you get an FF wheel - racing just aint the same without it......

OK, I'm dead proud. I manage a 1:46.07 round Watkins Glen this morning. So, looks like I'm getting the hang of this. One problem, hotlapping is SO ADDICTIVE!

By the way, are you using either of Novice Trainer or Advanced Trainer? They can be viewed as F3 and F2 cars respectively and so are slower.

Lose it as soon as possible.

Get on to the GP cars as soon as you can. Like with the aids on, if you don't, you have to start learning all over again when you do make the switch.

Absolutely, although I've had the game close to three years and still learning...

Be warned, with GPL you're likely to be in it for the long haul!

I've been using a Playstation 2 controller through a USB adaptor so that I have the analogue stick for steering, but my problem is with the throttle as its just an on off button which makes for a lot of spins exiting corners, any advice?

Also is there a car thats got half decent brakes? or is that asking too much!

I thought the same when I first played it, for example just after you cross the finish line at Kylami I brake then, they're that bad.
I originally thought I was using the wrong control there were that poor.

I just used the Lotus GP car, and went from a 1:58 to something like a 1:36. So, how do the experts on here reckon I'm doing? Also, I'm learning to brake in a straight line, these cars really like spinning.

Braking in a straight line is the "correct" way to drive a racing car, of course.

The textbook way, but different driving styles differ in this matter.

Indeed they do.
