Bleekemolen penalty

This did not seem to get much discussion in the Sepang thread, am interested to know what people's opinions are.

Only a racing incident. The thing about A1GP is that their marshals need to have their eyes check as they like to slap wrong penalties all the time. This is no exception.

Hopefully only a slip of the tongue, but it's worth clarifying that it's not the marshals that make the call.

Marshals will report the fact as they see them to the Clerk of the Course.

The Clerk (or Stewards in international meetings) will then use that as evidence, together with video footage and - if the decision is after the race - what the drivers involved say to make a considered decision.

So, it's not the marshals....

Carry on.

Agreed Asp, but in my opinion at most meetings nowadays, (even down to clubbies) if CCTV recordings are being made, a report from trackside only alerts race control to look at the recordings.

Post Chief written reports seem to count for very little when there is a potential penalty unless video back up is possible. Especially when a race series is FIA sanctioned (or they think they are of that standard)

Not neccessarily a bad thing, but I do feel I am wasting a lot of my time at some meetings.

So, the question is more.... why did the CoC choose to apply a penalty to Bleekemoelen?

Answer - because he believed it to be the right thing.
Referees will never be 100% right nor will they ever please all the armchair critics. Live with it.

perhaps not, but it's not the first time Netherlands has been on the recieving end of a dodgy decision, and not the first time in Sepang, and not the first time to the direct benefit of team Malaysia.

This is my personal opinion.

A1 Team Malaysia felt very strongly that South Africa should be penalized for the maneuver into Turn 2 during the Sprint which gave Malaysia a puncture especially considering that Germany was penalized heavily in previous year for a similar maneuver in the same corner.

No action was taken by the stewards on RSA. Hope this didn't imply that the stewards favoured RSA??

It was a rubbish penalty. RSA's move was questionalble but OK. But there should be a penalty point system where you can give a nation penalty points (like yellow cards), so that you can park a car for a race if the driver keeps misbehaving. Would clean up driving standards without wrecking the races with too much penalties destroying them.

I think this point system would be a good idea, (it could even give Bernie something else "Medals" to borrow from A1GP) I also agree with DiabloA1 South Africa's move on Malaysia should have been penalised, it wasn't legal or OK, and it destroyed Malaysia's sprint race.
