SJ Spode should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
German round under threat

The FIA's World Motor Sport Council have said that the Rallye Deutschland could be excluded on safety grounds following an unsatisfactory report last year from FIA observers.

A final inspection is due at the beginning of May, but if that is unsatisfactory the rally will be removed from this year's calendar.

Why are you so angry Lee? I know other rounds are worse than the German but getting tough is the only answer. I just wish they were a bit more even handed.

Could this be true? Germans, masters of organizing, failing here?

I'm angry because the issue here isn't safety... It's that the FIA can't stand the idea of a multi-surface rally, much less multiple surfaces in one stage, which is what made the rally so fantastic (that and the ultra-tight runs through the forest!).

It's the very best event on the rally, and they want it sanitized.

Mosely and the other weasels just won't let us have anything.

Asphalt, gravel, mud... All over the place... Was great to watch.

World Motorsport Council transcript:

"I do say, the fans actually seem to be enjoying this event."

"Zut alors! Eet cannot be safe! Something must be done!"

*sulks angrily*

Add to this story that the FIA is looking to phase out tarmac events from five to four in a six year period. They say those Tarmac Rallies are boring.

Well, if they're going to dump a tarmac round, it should be Corsica. Not just because I'm PO'd at the French, but also because it's surrounded by Sanremo, Catalunya, and Monte Carlo, which is further into France itself than Corsica anyway.

Germany isn't a historic round on the calendar, but dammit, it's a spectacular event!

Corsica is my favourite round! I love those bends and drops. I admit that I have never been there but some day I will.
As for Germany I thought the roads were actually quite tame but the weather made the difference.

The FIA World Motor Sport Council has confirmed the Rallye Deutschland's place on the 2003 calendar is secure, following a satisfactory second safety inspection.

Yay!

I just hope they haven't tossed out all the best stages.

What can I say? I'm passionate about this sport!

And politics... And food... And the price of tea in China... And the weather (effing cumulonimbus clouds!!!!)

Hmm, you might have a point there.
