The numbers are attributed to cars not drivers, according to their position in WCC standings. Exception being no. 1, for the WDC and no. 2 for his teammate. The team decides how the numbers are given to it's drivers. That is, Jaguar will have 14 and 15, and most probably Webber will have 14 since he is 1 season more experienced.

I don't really care about car numbers anyway, and I don't see why drivers should either. Numbers don't mean ****.
I mean, Coulthard had 7 and Hakkinen had 8 when they were teammates in 1998? Coulthard wasn't the No.1 driver in the team then was he? Melbourne 1998. Nuff said. |

Pretty sure they scrapped switching numbers recently, did they not? Champions still get 1 & 2, everyone else continues with whatever numbers they had last year. At least I'm sure that I read that somewhere - anyone know for sure?

I agree with the champion getting number 1, but I must say I miss the days when I driver 'kept' his number. The numbers were apart of the driver's character.
Glen, I think that was the plan at one stage, but scrapped because the one team (I think Sauber) was doing well that year and did'nt want to keep those numbers. Bring back driver numbers I say |

F1 is dull, even numbering is dull. They should give the champ #1 and all the others could choose numbers from 2 to 99.

numbers are important, especially to the racers! look at mansell he had red 5 whenever he didn't have #1. it appears in other sports too. Valentino Rossi races with #46 despite being champion and Aaron slight has always raced under #111!
