Well done, LewsDad; I was stumped on the two pre war cars. Also saves me posting my pics, but you might appreciate this one, and yes I'm in one of yours!:-

Ha! John, it seems like we've been sharing a lot of the same turf lately. I've noticed some of your shots, going back to the MGCC in October (the one that should be known as Desert Storm if it isn't already), were taken within about a second and four feet of mine!

Also, I'd love to know what lens you're using to make me look so stocky!

It must be all this new digital stuff. 20 years ago I looked much thinner in photos taken with the old 35mm film cameras

, you don't look stocky to me, and don't start getting technical! My pit and paddock camera is a Fujifilm S5000 with its standard 55mm lens. It's at least 6 years old and still a great camera for the close up stuff, even though the battery cover is now held closed with rubber bands!

No danger of me getting technical - SLR still means 'self-loading rifle' in my house! I use a Fuji S1000fd for everything. Results are mixed, mostly because I haven't read the instructions.

It's a MAN thing, innit. Use it for 5 years, then get the Book of Words out to find out how to stop it doing the annoying thing it now does, because you pressed the wrong button!

Not wanting to impose on the thread but I coincidentally re-discovered this shot, amongst others, from the Masters event at Donington last May. Thought it might sit in here rather than hide in the filing system.

Taken from the better part of the photographic pleb's area - the DPRAC compound.

Ah! I thought I recalled that is was the first outing for one of the Escorts in that race but could not remember which one.

I have to say it's a great colour choice - very striking and it always seems to photograph well.

Pleased to hear it's all nice and symetrical - must have been the body roll fooled me as Tim suggested.

I had a couple of Escorts with bubble arches in the 70s and know how difficult it is to get them dead right.

As others have said - it's a nice looking car.

'Top trumps' in AVO Club is to have a Mex, RS2000 or RS1600 with factory fitted arches- not many came out of Aveley with them already on!

The Gp2 arches are made by Fibresports, and have heard it said they made the originals for Broadspeed. The finish on delivery would suggest older moulds, if you get my drift.

I seem to remember that in the late 60s early70s Gartrac wasn't around, certainly for body parts, and they were all fibreglass, usually from Fibresports - mine certainly were. In fact I didn't know that Gartrac nor anyone else made metal ones. I thought the small square sided arches used on Mk 2s were the first to be made in steel or alloy.

I know steel arches were available about 1973 and maybe before that. There was a bit more work to fit them but they made for a very strong shell. I bought an Anglia with fiberglass ones fitted and broke one once quite easily.

Original Mk1 bubble arches as used by factory rally team and on customer cars were steel. Mk 2s used alloy surface fit ones. Fibreglass versions came from aftermarket suppliers and when Broadspeed wanted wider fuller arches for Gp2 guess it would make sense to go to someone like Fibresports.

Well, I'll be blowed! There I was today at Expressed Panels picking up some Cortina bits and right in front of me on the floor a big pile of steel front and rear Escort bubble arches. You live and learn!

Rang on Tuesday and told they were in stock. Went today and collected them. However, they are small items, not major panels. I was told if I was going Thursday to be there before 5-00 pm as they close promptly and if going Friday to get there before 1-00 pm as they close early on Friday. I have to say it wasn't a hive of activity when I got there at about 11-45 am though Geoff Coates said they were jam full of orders with quite a backlog. Perhaps a few more hours in the working week could help reduce the backlog!

Quite. If you don't catch the stuff when it is on the shelf........ Still, it usually fits and they helped me out of a muddle recently with some Mk2 Escort bits so am not complaining!
