Driver weight equalisation

It's kind of amazing that this rule was dropped at the end of LMP1. With all the fuss about BoP this surely makes balancing easier and it is more fair to heavier drivers. No brainer.

A tenth and a half per 5kg in terms of lap time in Hypercar. Quite important. The 82 kg minimum rule will be interesting to follow in the GT3 class. Two sessions of weighting (maybe three because of a certain pink car?).

I see the Verstappen comments have been mentioned again, it looks increasingly likely that he has significantly contributed to this proposed change.

In single seaters, drivers are weighed post-race. Perhaps drivers could be weighed post-stint instead.

Also amazing they're still in the process of sorting through the regs on the ground on the eve of the season opener. It does imply that it's been rushed through.

I thought I would put my predictions here since it doesn't look like we have a predictions thread for the championship?

Ferrari will sweep the team, driver, and manufacturers championships. After the first round in Qatar, it is apparent that the programs of Cadillac, BMW, and Alpine are too young for a sustained full season challenge against the reference teams of Porsche, Toyota, and Ferrari. They've given up too much ground in Qatar when there was opportunity for more.

Last season also showed that Toyota will be slowed excessively as a matter of habit leaving Ferrari to scoop up the points against the rival LMH manufacturer. The Porsche LMDh car will never be a match against a much lighter 499P lmh car and it will take several rounds for the weights to invert in favor of the Porsche as is required for balancing the cars properly.

I'll also predict that in return for being sacrificed in the regular season, Porsche will have a generous BOP for Le Mans and it will be their race to win or throwaway given that BOP. Whether they will win, I do not know, but I predict that they will have the speed to do so finally, with a very healthy power gain factor to increase their straight line speed, as well as the Ferrari finally being buried under the BOP table

Toyota #7 LeMans win for their 40th anniversary. Ferrari still manage to bungle the manufacturers and drivers championship over the season despite being gifted a headstart and leading the charge up until LeMans.

Some Hypercar and LMP2 teams have been testing at Imola ahead of upcoming WEC and ELMS rounds. I would love to see the lap times of the ELMS-spec P2s vs the Hypercars.

I wonder what BOP they use during the testing.

Whatever they want?
One of the things they could do is play around with it to get an idea of the impact.
Or maybe they’ve already been given value, even if tentative.
Or as they will have seen the data for their car they could have a stab as they know the performance over the last three rounds. It isn’t circuit dependent which would help this estimation.

Maybe whatever the bop was for the previous round? I would guess that makes most sense unless they're given a heads up on bop for the next race before published.

Based on that video, the only hypercar manufacturers at the test were Alpine, Porsche, and Cadillac.
