Hi Mike, I’d already found the first part of the chassis number breakdown but the drive train info confirms what I thought. The interesting thing is a lot of the other early 70’s race chassis had a very similar number even though the build dates are not even close. 19998 seems fairly common so was that a factory allocated number for race cars? |

Of no interest: axle ratio 3.22, AQ: trim leatherette gold/black.

GAECPY 19999 GAECPB 19997 GAECNA 19997 GAECLJ 19997 There are others out there that end in 19998 so if the only thing that changes is the letter that defines the month and year. Does this mean that all race cars built at the factory had chassis numbers ending in 97,98 or 99? This car, allegedly, was raced in Europe after being built in 1971 and then it was exported to the Ford East Africa Importer in about 1973, used at a couple of circuits in Kenya then was laid up for 40+ years. |

Ah, cheers for the clarification! Looks interesting, but don’t think I’ve got any in-depth literature on Ford Germany built race cars. There may be a book or two published over there on a similar theme to ‘The Works Escorts’ that covers Capris from Cologne. That’s what’s needed!
BTW well done Gerard with the trim colour code. I couldn’t find that! |
