Production Cars
Quote:
Ray, why dont you like production cars? Personally it is probably my favorite catagory. The mix of makes and models, battles between 2wd, 4wd, turbo, v8's etc. There is alway passing, people trying desperate moves and a bit of pushing and shoving. It is great to see the little cars beating the big ones, Xr6 falcons beating V8 commodores. I have been around production cars for the past 10 years and have always found them to be an excellent catagory to watch and to be around. So what is everyone elses opinion? |

Here's a phrase for you....
"My take on this is..." that the class is there to interest the public at large. With a wide range of cars so that people see something related to what they drive on the circuit. But the execution of it is such a hotch-potch of classes and sub-classes, and the restrictive nature of the apparent rules (you can race a Falcon with this, but not with that etc), mean that there's no real relevance and it's difficult to follow the races from that point of view. The classic production racing of the past saw anything with the production numbers able to race, the top-line cars of the range were the ones chosen and you knew the playing field. It's so complicated today that it's really difficult to know where the cars stand. It therefore fails. |

That is all true Ray. They've decided to turn humble production cars into a parity class. Which really does defeat the purpose of the exercise.
I was actually talking to someone who screwed together one of the race winning cars at Wakefield tonight, and the biggest expense they had over the weekend was the Procar entry fees, which were into the thousands. Then again, they seem to be on a winner. They have competitors lining up to be a part of the classes, they have their own race meetings, and they provide good racing for the fans.... |

GTP is tremendous!!!
I love the V8Supercars, but it can get a bit repetitive when that is all you see. It's great to see Ferraris, Porsches, Lambos and Vipers (Nations Cup), as well as HSVs, Fords, Mitsubishis, Subarus, Hondas, Nissans, Toyotas and BMWs on the track. It's very interesting, pretty good racing and fun to watch (as well as no massive wings and bits sticking out everywhere). |

Crash and Ray are on to something here. Production cars should be absolutely bog stock, it should NOT be a parity class. If one car dominates, then it is obviously better and that's OK. Parity is a form of sporting socialism.

Sure are... but I've been around for a while and seen it all before. Mostly we've seen (I assume some things here, but I guess Crash has too) what doesn't work.
Because that's usually what they do, CAMS and the 'promoters'.. go for stuff that won't sell. |
