i guess there was the planned mclaren LMP car for the late 1990's and in a way the peugeot 905 EVO 2, the lamborghini jota as well which looked much like a countach and the aston martin DB7 GT.

I'll stick with the XJ13 Jag, ta.
I was working at Brown's Lane when the Le Mans D type tour were starting to leave.
The guy from the Museum hoofed the XJ across the car park, and didn't even get a glance...
Apart from 3 of us who'd heard it start up!

We did start the Pagani, thank you very much! ;-) Ran the illustrious 12 Minutes of Sebring... followed in June by the mighty and infamous 24 Minutes of Le Mans!

Mercedes SLR-GT1.
It should have been finished around 2004/2005. Mercedes head-director hates racing, pulled the plug out. DTM and F1 are real marketing projects for Mercedes. Thats why he only had his hands on the SLR project, and cancelled it half-way-through. (who helps me kill him )

That's true. If I'm not mistaken Gordon Murray actually had two or three race versions of the SLR built up to different series specs to present to MB and they were all shot down.

Ouch. Best laid plans . . .. .

Racing is more then just having a car.

Thought 2004 or 2005? DTM programe, but they went broke and no MG DTM car raced a inch.

That of Gordon Murray is new to me. Pitty no photo's are ever shown on the web. Building my own 1/24 SLR-GT1's. Hard to make out of fantasy, but want to keep it as real.

Basically, it was a hugely advanced LMP1 with an unconfirmed engine i believe, and the experts believe it could have returned a profit very quickly, because it would have been sold, and it cost not too much apparently. It was quite pretty, there was a feature in autosport with the same name as this thread, it was in that.

I think I have that article somewhere on my hard drive. Am I allowed to post it? If I find it that is. (Maybe it has already been posted?)

While we're on a McLaren theme, here's one for you, although it wasn't ever intended to be raced.

Towards the end of 1996, Mercedes ran a McLaren F1 GTR test mule, which had CLK-like front bodywork, and was fitted with the Mercedes V12 intended for the CLK-GTR.

I seem to remember seeing a picture of it in Autosport, sitting in a gravel trap at either Jerez or Jarama, after Bernd Schneider crashed it.

Can't help on supplying a picture I'm afraid but certainly remember the photo of it in the gravel trap. It was quite an appealing car - certainly a McLaren but with distinct Mercedes styling cues. I seem to remember it had a longer tail than other F1s, but I could be on completely the wrong track on this one.

I remember reading somewhere that the GTR that Mercedes used as a test hack was the car formerly owned by Fabien Giroix, although I can't confirm that. I also seem to remember that it was painted all white in the gravel trap photograph.

Ask and ye shall receive... I happen to work for a fairly well-known motorsport photo agency. On the off chance I decided to see if I could find anything of it in our archive, and what do you know, there was the shot! There are a few more as well, which I doubt have been seen anywhere.
