Ted Walker should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Toj Sportscars

A Friend of mine has just imported a TOJ Sportcar. It carries the chassis No SC303-05. Although it will be fitted and raced with an M12 BMW the car shows signs of at one stage in its life of being fitted with a DFV. Can anyone throw any light on this ?????

I can't help, but the this site may.

http://www.tojdrom.de/

You can ask Jorg himself about the history of the car. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I have been a fan of the Toj marque for many years, since I saw the late Jo Gartner drive one at Brands for the 6 hour in 1981.

Ted,

I have a series of photos of the SC205 that used to be here in Ohio. I believe it's power was Ford Kent based, but a 2 liter , at least. This car was evidently one built during the Modus phase, as the cast front and rear uprights are all Modus parts. A 303 must be a later Argo era car, assuming Jorg and Jo were still on good terms.

Don't remember exactly where, but I recall I read about Frenchman Hubert Striebig having a Toj chassis powered sometimes by a DFV, in other occasions by a 2-litre engine (BMW?).

There was at least 2 Toj's active in the intersire during the late 70's and early 80's powered by a DFV.

One driven and entered by Kurt Hild the other entered by 'Mayen Automobil Club' and driven Norbert Przybilla. Both had pretty good results winning some races.

The RacingSportsCar site has some images.

Nordic's SC205 I also saw at that Brands 6 Hours and we earmarked it as a useful contender for the following year's Thundersports.
We bought it and Dave benbow rebuilt it and away we went.
Lovely cars and that formulae of not so light, not so aerodynamic but powerful and reasonably rubbered, were great to race. We had it for a couple of seasons, then it went on with Walker.
Don't know where it ended up.
Sorry, didn't add that it was purpose built with a BMW M12 engine (great motors); no sign of DFV with that car.

If you look on the previous Thundersports threads, there were one or two posted there. Otherwise the link above on Nordic has dozens of them all.

gfm's car at Brands.
http://rupert8766.fotopic.net/p3072576.html

I did not realise it was the same car as the Gartner one.

http://rupert8766.fotopic.net/p2780267.html

You can see it mixing with the Grp C cars at a rather wet Brands. (one of the best race meetings I have ever been to)

Thanks for that. Good to know.
Really good car; for some reason, the body on it was particularly well proportioned, though no lightweight.
I do have some nice shots, see what I can do.
After the TOJ, I drove Wedgewood's Tiga, another super quick 2 litre.
Good racing.

There was an SC303 entered in the 1978 Le Mans 24 hours driven by Hubert Striebig and Guy Chasseuil but it failed to qualify.

There was a very interesting test of the SC302 model published in period in a magazine.

Told you I had something, surely this is the one your looking for:

Sorry, but image deleted because:-
1) It's too big - see FAQ's re image size
2) This is surely copyrighted material - do you have permission to use it? - JT

This is not the article in question.
This one was just a presentation and the other one was a detailed test of the car but I am not looking for it.

No phdm I know, it isn't this article. But this is actually about the SC 303, the test drive article is from the earlier SC 302 car. Of course very similar...

This is an older 301 from 1976.
The 303 was raced at the end of 1977 and in 1978.

To whom it may concern:
could this board be placed in the chassis file section for TOJ?

John, I'm moving it to the Chassis Archive but it would be good to get a bit of structure to the chassis no sequences and maybe a summary of what is known.

Toj SC301 and SC302

According to MN 5-5-77 the original DFV sportscar (SC301) made its debut at Dijon in September 1976 (Rolf Stommelen). This car was sold to Kurt Hild (an Austrian), although some times shared with Jorg Obermoser. A new DFV car (SC302) was built in 1977 for the new Group 6 series (Rolf Stommelen).
