Don't know - personally haven't seen the entry list but then they had nearly that many at Winton last year so maybe it's a track that more of them like?

Maybe not given the carnage we saw at Winton in last year's TCM

27 TCM cars for Winton this weekend. http://touringcarmasters.com.au/news...DS-WINTON-GRID

What's happened to Rusty French and his tcm mustang. He hasn't raced it this year? Has he retired from driving?

He had his De Tomaso Pantera out a few weeks back.

I don't think he's hung the helmet up yet.

Even so, Bowe and Johnson are heavily restricted on rpm and weight IIRC.

There is no need to spend $100,000 on engines when Johnson and Bowe are making do with milder engine builds and still in front...

That suggests it's the driving of "the rest" that needs to be improved! But given they are amateurs racing for fun, who can afford to spend up, then they are keeping the tuning workshops in business.

Newer, more iconic, more market relevant, unique in that series, strengthening the links to his father’s successes in a similar model of car... lots of reasons to do it...

The boxy XD might not be super special on aero however, although with Mr Lacroix back at the mothership his father part owns, some magic in this space may be possible also...

As GTR said more likely to do with the XD obviously holding a special place in the Johnson family compared to a Mustang.

Although next year the Mustang will be more relevant to the team.

Mr Williams did very well not to clean bowl the front half of the field.

So what happened to the 31 car field entered for Winton?
Looking at Natsoft shows about 20 cars for each race.

Maybe so. Wasn't the rule makers reasoning that mechanically and suspension wise the XD is identical to the XC? The VB on the other hand is a lot more different to the Torana.

Maybe if a James Brock or Steven Richards showed interest in a VB.....

JOHNSON CONSPIRACY

I have just watched a replay of the last TCM race at Winton in which Steve Johnson ended up finishing third. There is something "strange" about this.

The last lap sign was displayed by mistake one lap early. Johnson was in the lead but coming to the start / finish line he slowed allowing Bressington and Hansford past.

Then lap scoring error was realised and they raced another lap. Johnson stayed in third.

The commentators immediately said these exact words:" I'm convinced Johnson backed off knowing the chequered flag coming. He's been doing that every race to let margins close up"

YET on the TCM official site it says "an error on cold tyres in turns 11 and 12 caught him out allowing Bressington and Hansford to pounce"

Also says "an error on cold tyres following a restart"

Speedcafe says " Johnson made an error on cold tyres at turn 12"

The safety car was out for 4 laps. The false finish was at the end of lap 6, so there was 2 full laps of racing to let the tyres warm up.....

So was Johnson being too smart and got caught out???

As I don't have a vested interest in the series, I couldn't care less about conspiracies.

They put on a good show, and are pleasing to the eyes and ears. That's all I realy care about.

There is no last lap board displayed to competitors at all. It has been removed from the Race Meeting Standing Regulations (RMSRs) and I can guarantee that there was no board displayed at any point to any category at Winton.

What goes out on TV is a completely different story...

What may have caught SJ out was the time certain finish changed from 12:58 + 1 lap to 13:00 + 1 lap because the delayed start cost them a lap of racing at the beginning of the race. There was no lap scoring error.

Since I posted on the Johnson Conspiracy exactly a week ago (post #320) there have been almost 900 views but only 3 posts.

Does this indicate people are apathetic about TCM?
