Hi to all my old friends at Brands - hope as many as possible of you will get to the track day, and I'd have really loved to have been there too. The Oulton Park day last year was brilliant - had a ride in an MX5, a Renault Spyder, something that looked like a Europa but under the skin was even more awesome, plus a Porsche GT3! Just missed out on a ride in Mike Newton's LMP, which had left other seasoned racers gasping - the head-gasket had gone, but never mind - that's motor racing, maybe next year.
Thanks to all the owners and drivers who turned up to give the marshals a treat...
We had a fabulous day, and everyone went home with big grins!
Have a great day. Martin B

Yes, Everybody; a Great Day was had by all. The early rain soon stopped, followed by glorious sunshine. Many thanks to the 60 plus Marshals who tip-toed around the Circuit; to the Mazdas and Ferrari giving hot rides and to the MSV Staff who made the whole day happen. Finally, many thanks to Jonathan Palmer for the opportunity, and our own Stephen Green for co-ordinating the event.
What about the naughty ones that caused TOO many Red Flags, by going beach- combing mostly at Druids and earning a bottom-spanking from Michelle who so professionally, as usual, ran the Control Tower.
Thank you all!! PS Do not forget Cadwell Park next month!!

Another great day, and very glad i made it (albeit arrving late and having to leave very early) - but still worth the trek from Southampton.

As always, many thanks to the organisers - it's much appreciated!

Hopefully someone will have some photos??

Another fantastic day dawned at Brands yesterday. I must say a huge thankyou to all the staff and marshals who manned the track so we could have so much fun.
A huge thankyou to Jonathan Palmer for allowing us to use the track , to Stephen Green for putting it all together , what a shame you had to work Stephen.
I must say a massive thankyou to Richard Beaty at Wolfdirectracing for getting ten cars together to give rides around the track. He and his team were up all night prepping the cars and went without sleep to put the day together. wolfdirect@aol.com is his email if anyone has any photos you want to send to him or to contact him with your comments.
Also thanks to the Mazda MX5's team for putting lots of marshals in the hot seat again. No doubt we'll see them at Cadwell?
If anyone has photos from the day please could you send me a link to have a look at them? mec.smith@virgin.net

The Mazda's will indeed be at Cadwell Park on 28/2/06 and I will ring Richard of Wolfdirect to see whether they are able to help again as well.

Just got back from brands, after spending weekend there including BARC SE dinner/dance...very good.

A very big thankyou to MSV for a fantastic day out on friday, first time we have ever done a track day...... (finances dictate) and its good that someone has given something to us marshalls, and it is very much appreciated .
We had a lot of fun driving our fiesta around in the wet, and then dry conditions,
We, ve marshalled for a few years now and its good to see things from a drivers point of view....paddock hill bend ..wow..... and when we were taken around on a lot of hot laps in the mazda mx5,s...fantastic

So a big thankyou to every one involved in giving us a fantastic day out, (its a shame other clubs dont give something back)
My advice to anyone is go and do it, you wont regret it...thankyou

I too would like to say thank you to all who put the day together (JP, SG, MSV ...). Hope my driving (silver Escort in the novice group) didn't hold people up too much! And of course mustn't forget all the drivers who brought their cars along for the hot laps, especially the Ferrari F355, Paddock Hill Bend will never be the same again!

Has anyone had time to sort any photos from Brands Hatch yet?
I have been told that Wolfdirectracing are bringing even more cars to Cadwell, the seicentos that were there last time are returning with a couple more along with at least 3 renault clio's including the V6, the escort zetec will be there and the owner of the Ferrari 355 is meant to be coming with something else thats rapid.Thats just a taste of whats coming. I cant wait! Lets hope its a nice dry day!

All,

Anyone thinking of doing one of the MSV or other Marshals Trackdays might be interested in visiting
http://silkrallyradio.biz/track_day.htm

Yes we all have stood there on the bank witnessing an abundance of enthusiasm over talent week in and week out, however it's another thing having ago yourself and getting it wrong.

What Competition Car Insurance are doing is offering Track Day Insurance Cover at a discounted rate for marshals. On the page are some sample prices from late 2005, however there's a link to Richard at CCI so you can get an up to date quote.

Every little helps

Derek

Has anyone read the article in last thursdays Autocar Mag about track days? Its written by Steve Sutcliffe. The article was obviously put together at Brands Hatch as the photos are from there.
he goes on to try and tell you what to do if you've never done a track day before ,which is useful. He got the flags correct but then proceeds to say that if you are being overtaken by a faster car, keep to the left, and always overtake on the right!
He obviously didnt listen to the briefing before he went out on circuit in his Focus ST (Sanitary Towel?)and then gets it sideways in the wet without a crash helmet on.
Is this guy for real?
You can just imagine the next beginners track day briefing when they get told about overtaking and hands go up to say that its the opposite to what we've just been told in Autocar!!

It's 'overtake on the left' at Oulton.

Yes Guys, It is always overtake on the LEFT at Brands Hatch, you will get reported for a "RHS" as we know them. This is in the briefing both at all Car Track Hires and the Racing School. The OTL basically follows International Racing rules.
The only time we allow overtaking wherever, is on Official Testing, where participants hold MSA Licences and the basic "blue book" rules apply.
(Bike Days are, of course, excepted)
