Looks like a Vette to me. Looks good too. Not enough yellow but I like it. The TCR Mazda looks amazing though. Hopefully it's as fast and reliable as it is good looking. Now we need a Mazdaspeed 3 that has the same look!

I need to see the C8 in person before I make a final decision. I'm trying really, really hard to like the car, but I'm not feeling it. At all. I genuinely hope people like the car and buy lots of them but I wish they had named it something else.
I'm the same way with a lot of cars. Can't really tell how much I like it until I see it in person. The Nissan DPi cars always looked weird to me on tv, but when I saw it in person it was great. This could end up being the same way, but even if I like it, I'm going to miss the hell out of the front engine beast.

Looking at it sideways reminds me of the Corvette DP too. If there was a C8 styling for the Corvette DP, it would not be far off from this. I do miss that car, Corvette was the only Daytona Prototype I ever liked.

That sounds like a V8 imo, not the original LT V8 we associate with Corvette but not a turbo

Corvette C8R and Porsche 911 RSR 19 look very fast. Probably are too. They could match the Grand Am era DP cars at Daytona in speed now? Very possible I think. Could be slowed down only by BoP if BMW M8 can't keep up.

daytona don't know because dp3 (before ALMS-GA merge) were considerably fast on straight due lack of downforce, a GTLM will never reach >310km/h at daytona, but found out a curious fact

2013 DP GRAND-AM pole laguna seca: 1.21.557
2019 GTLM IMSA pole laguna seca: 1.21.557

lol

basically aero and tires compensate the extra weight since

GTLM about 1220-1280kg x about 520hp x confidential michelin

vs

DP about 1050kg x about 510hp x concrete compound spec continental

I'm going to guess that it is a smaller displacement DOHC V8 with a flat plane crank. It definitely isn't OHV because a pushrod V8 doesn't sound anything like that with a flat plane crank.

There are rumors of this exact thing (minus the fancy crank) being developed by GM for Cadillac right now.

I don't think it's smaller displacement given that GM for the Cadillac (and if they went small displacement for the Corvette) would/are using turbochargers. The C8R sounds like a NA engine. I'm betting that it might be 5.0-5.5 liters, though I may be wrong.

Granted, it sounds like the Super GT spec/LMP2 spec Nissan VK45 engine, which was a 4.5 liter flat crank V8, or the Gibson GK428 LMP2 engine, which is a 4.2 liter flat crank V8.

And whatever the displacement, I doubt that it's a pushrod engine, which is a first for a racing Corvette since the start of the IMSA program in 1999.

I'm such an old man and out of the loop that I read this morning that the 4.2L is on sale in the CT6 now.

I went to see the C8.R yesterday at Kennedy Space Center. Looked good to me in person! I got some detail photos of the car (front and back) in there.

Thanks for the preparation pictures, looks to be better than their produced pictures. And I think GM has a big center setup for it in the paddock,I couldn't tell if it was GM or Porsche but it was a hella garage being set up last weekend in Vendor Village.

Yeah I'd expect a big setup for this and their usual setup at Road Atlanta. They said this was the car that tested at Sebring and they have a second car for testing now.

Feel bad for the employees big time. This is by far the biggest issue here. Somebody has GOT to give these guys some work in any way shape or form. Motor racing (regardless of series) or in automotive business.

Just speaking from the on track product, could we see the Daytona 24 at a 38-42 car grid? Would not be the worst thing actually considering how reliable the cars are. Probably will just have 5-7 cars drop out these days. So keep that in mind everybody.

Well there is it, flat-plane 5.5L engine in the C8.R.

Liveries different for the 3 and 4 next season as well

https://sportscar365.com/imsa/iwsc/c...ils-confirmed/

From S365:
The engine, producing 500 horsepower and 480 foot-pounds of torque, limited per GTE regulations, has been paired with a new compact Xtrac six-speed sequential gearbox that was developed specifically to provide room for a race-specific diffuser.

Louth said the biggest gains with the mid-engine layout has been with an improved weight distribution and aerodynamics

Kinda surprised that I was right with the engine displacement given how it sounded in videos. Only reason I guessed that displacement was the block might be LS/LT based.

I don't know where to put this, but there's some historic IMSA content in there. Racing engineers from IMSA and NASCAR demonstrating illegal mods they've run over the years. It's hilarious and brilliant.
