Historic GT2 Sportscar Championship - Race 2 - Apricot Hill
Welcome another running of the Historic Sportscar Racing Series for the GT2 platform. This series is in its seventh season, and has been my favourite GT2 series. The cars are incredibly competitive and we have been lucky enough to have some of the best drivers, and closest competition around.
Many drivers in the past have chosen to drive multiple cars, with multiple nicks. Feel free to do so here, but just clearly mark what your alter-nick?will be so nobody is confused. Perhaps GT4 will see the historic cars added again, and hopefully with an even greater selection Past Champions Season 1 - Soccerboy - Datsun 240Z Season 2 - Fogelhund - Lotus Europa Season 3 - Didi - Lotus Elan Season 4- Fogelhund - Camaro Season 5 - Didi - Lotus Elan Season 6 - Fogelhund - Camaro The Racing prepared Class Rover Mini 1275 Mark 1 1964 Lotus Elan S2 71' Datsun/Nissan 240Z Lancia Stratos Lotus Europa 83' Mazda RX-7 GT-Turbo 86' Toyota MR2 1600G-Limited 71' Nissan Skyline 68' Toyota 2000GT Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evo 66' Shelby GT350 69 Camaro Z28 67' Corvette Stingray 82' Corvette Stingray 71' Lotus Elan S4 Note The administrative staff reserves the rights to modify options available on the cars should certain marques be too far ahead, or behind the other cars. There is no limit to the number of drivers choosing the same car General Guidelines and Rules We expect everybody to race cleanly, and within regular OLR guidelines. The series, including any protests or time inquiries is being run under granturismo.com race guidelines. If you are not familiar with these, please read the OLR FAQ at granturismo.com http://forum.granturismo.com/showth...?threadid=46235 Lack of knowledge of rules is not an excuse to break them. While this is not a dex certified series, you should be prepared to defend your times with a detailed RTI (I'll give you a format), and in extreme cases, we might require some type of save. While I would like to believe that everybody is honest, a select few have proved me wrong. I generally run most of the cars at each track that is run, and have a pretty good idea of what is possible. I would not recommend trying to pull a fast one here, you will be spotted. There will be random requests for a detailed RTI, or dex save. The placements of these random RTI will be determined before the start of each race. I am looking for a couple of volunteers who are PAL users, who can check DEX saves, for those who prefer DEX over RTI. Save your runs I would highly recommend that you always save your fastest runs, so that you can provide details later on. You must have two wheels on something paved at all times. This includes the curbs, rumbles strips and the two paved sections on the inside of the curbs at Rome Night. For the purpose of this series, if you can see more than two wheels off the track from the above replay view, the time is invalid. ANY touch of any wall, guardrail, building.. regardless of how hard will rule a time invalid. With a good tight field here, we have the wonderful Apricot Hill up next on the schedule.
This is a track with two tricky corner sections that are key to good laps, and both are followed by very long straight sections. Decent exit speed out of each complex leads to decent speed down the straights. The horseshoe is the first of lap brakers. This is where the Lancia Stratos of Lee Janotta, the 240Z of woodruffj and the Integrale of JuanDon MUST make their moves in taking the fight to the hordes of Muscle Cars that dominate the entry list. Any of these cars lift here, and its all backwards from there. Those in muscle cars must find a way to carry some speed through here, to try and keep the nimbler cars in sight. In the final esses, its a tough balance between maximum speed, and getting the dreaded "Out of Course" declaration. Then its all power to the finish. Can the nimble cars hold off the power to the line? Rejoining us in Race 2 will be Slipzstrem who had technical difficulties, and Team Sillytron, who somehow got lost in Race 1, and forgot the track was REVERSE. Slip is sure to put a challenge up here for the final podium position, at a track that the Europa struggles a bit at. The Pumpkin Head Mini will be hard at it again, but can he hold off the Camaro at the finish this time? |

Gah! It's too damn quiet! C'mon, let's hear something! Gloating, griping, something! We just finished an event!
Okay, I'll start. Apricot Hill _really_ needs resurfacing! There's almost no grip! I'm completely awesome through the chicange, though. The Stratos really handles like you'd expect a rally car to through that section. I'm spending a lot of time in the barriers due to said lack of grip, though. I'd take the damn roll bars completely off the car if I could, it's way too loose in parts. I got a 41.003 thru sector 2... Then promptly pitched the car, rear-first, into the Mini sign. This Mighty Starlet sure is an interesting ride. I'm not sure exactly what to make of it yet, but I'm wasn't expecting this. You might notice the new sticker on the car, Didi Prep Werks.
Anyway, Sector 2 is a suprising 37.7 so far, at 145 mph, a little obscene really. Damned Stratos keeps spinning in front of me.. road hog. |

--PRESS RELEASE--
Team GTV is extremely pleased with its overall performance in the first event. Spokeswombat, Gran Turismo said "For sure we are all very 'appy with the performance of the Mustang and are all confident that the Camaro and Corvette will show up well at coming races." "The team will commence testing later in the week at the next track - Apricot Hill, and as our drivers are all particularly fond of apricots, we expect a good showing from them." |

Blimey, 6th and 8th. Perhaps I should leave it at that before my results plummet!
Congratulations to Pumpkin Head, Fogelhund and Rennsport Addict. I have a feeling you will all be filling the podium most of the time! |

How on earth did you guys on the podium find a half second on the rest of us!? |

A note that JaFa from the German board granturismo.de has just posted a Sector 2 time of 37.6 in his 71' Elan S4. As mentioned above, the better handling cars really need to be hard on it in the first half of the lap, in order to keep the powerhouses off in the back half.

Well, after some setup help (thanks Foge!) and a bit of practice, I'm managed an S2 of 38.284. Braking for turn 2 is hell in this car, it'll swap ends in a heartbeat!

Shock News - TEAM GTV BLIGHTED BY UNDERSTEER
Spokeswomble Gran Turismo is quoted after practice at Apricot Hill "These damn lard @rsed american pieces of @#$% would turn in properly if you greased their rear tyres. Bloody drivers could drive a greasy stick up a ...{censored in the interests of good taste}" GTV27 is just managing to wrestle the Mustang to a 39.343, narrowly pipping GTV28 in the Z28 on a 39.501 and GTV26 in the Corvette at 39.655. Team management is reportedly considering withdrawing driver access to team catering and grid girls as punishment for this poor performance. Gran Turismo was heard shouting from the team compound "Unless you F@#$ing idiots can manage to get by that goose in the Stratos, there'll be no more nocchi or nookie at team expense" Drivers are reportedly reviewing their contracts and are very interested in tips on killing understeer in the horseshoe. More news as it comes to hand. |

Rennsport Addict turns up the wick a bit, and runs a 37.5 S2 with a 150mph top speed. It's going to be quite the race to the line.

38.051.
I turned a 38.013, but I threw the lap away exiting the chicane! Thankfully I've got more power than the Loti, I might be able to reel them in down the straights. GTV, I laughed my arse off at that post! Last edited by Lee Janotta; 5 Jun 2003 at 01:40. |

Yeah Lee, I've off course'd a few nice times at the chicane as well.
These nimble cars have got me well and truely beat upt to sector 2, but hopefully the V8's can come back after than (not too confident though, must be losing lots of time in the lefthander to chicane complex). |

You're not wrong about the understeer GTV! Mustang isn't too bad, but the Stingray is awful. Managed a 38.8 with the Shelby, but my best laps have been half a second off at this point with the '67 Corvette. It tends to hold on round the rest of the lap, sometimes pulling a bit back on the run up the Hill from the hairpin.
Did manage to do a decent first couple of sectors with it, but then chucked it off at the final chicane (where it is also awful!). Haven't managed to string a lap together yet that contains all my best splits. I always seem to give a tenth or two away SOMEWHERE. Grrrrr! Had a quick go with the 240Z - feels very nice in comparison and got down into the 39s pretty quickly. Definitely not the muscle cars favourite track, but then I'm sure that won't stop Fogelhund! |

The Stratos has trouble with that left-hander before the chicane, though... I've got some understeer through there with this setup, so I have to tap the brakes to get the rear end loose. It's the price I pay with this setup Foge gave me to have more stability in that first braking zone. But once I get into the chicane, the car goes through beautifully, sliding between the curbs just like you'd want a rally car to do. |

Finally Pumpkin Head gets in that good lap in the Mini. Sector 2 was 37.6 for this lap, but the finish was very strong. The Mini, Europa & Starlet are all packed into the transporter awaiting poor Fogelhund, who just can't get the Camaro to work for him.

Argghhhhhhhhh, keep throwing away my best laps at the chicane - either I'm too excited and slide onto the grass, or I'm too tentative and lose too much ground.

Camaro finally ran a decent lap. 38.3 Sector two, but the power really clawed it back in the last half of the lap... but is it enough?

Got down to a 38.68 in the Stingray - it's not bad up the hill after the hairpin either, but I still reckon the smaller cars will slaughter me through the chicane!
How's the understeer GTV? |

Apologies, time above done with Shelby, which then loses ground relative to the Stingray up the Hill.

Lee the Stratos can you buy it or is it a win it job? Will have to dig my old Memory card out and see what Ive got in the garage - think I usually had 96 cars (to allow room to win 'em) and about 38 million banked. Was completely hooked on that game for many years, better see if I remember what to do!

The Stratos is won at the Apricot Hill Enduro.
Which brings me to a little story. I wanted the Stratos BAD in the game, so off to the Apricot Hill Enduro. I have done that enduro a grand total of 17 times, and did not win that Stratos, and eventually had to get someone to mail me a dex save with it on the card. Sweet Car though. |
