I am now virtually ready - thanks a lot Carrera for offering to help me out on transport. I will be racing a car that I sit in for the first time on Friday afternoon in free practice! See you all out there

I put up some pictures from the weekend. They are mainly from Group 4, as I was with their organisation for this weekend. I have some more from the rest, but my webspace wasnt able to get all of the pics handled. Anyways: enjoy:

can I take this opportunity to thank John Ruston and his team for helping me out. I will check the height of tunnels in future and try not to get stuck under them!
The weekend was apart from that fantastic - as usual although the Gp 4 race was still a learning curve for me and teh Merlyn only started to make sense during Julius' Top Hat race. Pity there was a safety car for so long of my stint. Was Mike Salmon in the Jaguar that rolled or was it the other driver and does anyone know if they were ok? Lets hope so. Gentlemen Drivers race afterwards had 66 starters and only 5 dnf's in 2 hours racing - sadly the MGB I was co driving was one of them retiring on the last lap with a broken half shaft! |

Sadly, I wasn't able to watch the whole 6 hour race. Anyway, I'm surprised to see the two TVR Granturas ended up in 3rd and 5th overall. Does anybody know why ? This looks like a freak race. Secondly, from the other side of the fence I could see lots of cars spilling petrol all around the track, scary.

that was true in several of the tin top races.... a certain ten tenther's Merlyn was on pole with a very quick time but sadly didnt make the distance. The dicing between his car and Mark Hales' Crossle was very exciting. I watched the first 2 hours. I gather that when the rain started at 11 o clock it got very scary with many incidents

the Top Hat race had a few odditied as well, it seems that consistency and a quick pit stop can make all the differrence, the safety car also helped reel in the quicker cars
something went pop for me on the last lap, so after rising from 64th to what would have been around 50th I dropped back to 62nd . . .still we got there and had a great weekend, got another signature and have plenty to build on for next year thanks to everyone who's helped this year in what ever way, we're just pleased to have been able to race there, a fantastic place, although not so sure about letting 60' campers hog the whole paddock, we ended up in a gravelly patch on a steep hill ! |

Well that’s it; it’s all over for another year. I’d like to thank Carrera for his sterling efforts as co driver in the BSSC and Top Hat one-hour races. We’ll have a new windscreen and a fan and an electric water pump next year.
Ken Clarke Motorsport for providing a reliable and eventually quick car, Pat for support, timing and coffee. John for wielding spanners and sensible comments for the entire weekend. Barry Sidery-Smith for providing two opportunities to make a fool of myself and Julius Thurgood for providing a further opportunity. The Races? We decided that Carrera would start the two driver races and thus he got the short straw both times. The BSSC race started very damp and dried out later but “wet” tyres held us back. Look out for a Duke Marketing Capri video, which will include our efforts in this race. Qualifying was manic so we were unable to set a representative time. Thus we started 75th so our finishing position of 43rd was pretty good. Then we got to the Top Hat where we started a more reasonable 43rd. Sadly the safety car spoiled Carrera’s run but we fought manfully from 43rd to er ………………………….. 43rd! I was entered in the last race of the day and by now I had got used to the car (not having driven it in anger since April) and starting from 47th I was up to 30th when my accelerator pedal snapped on the seventh lap! Coincidentally I was about to overtake Ken Clarke’s Dolomite at the time. So a non-finish but a great weekend. Good to see Zef get out there. I know he’s worked hard to be there. There were more spectators there than previously, and I spent a lot of time explaining that my car was a replica and not an original Belga car. Great fun and should we start next year’s thread now? |

Thanks to Mallett Racing for the opportunity to drive Spa. Thanks to Mark for pointing out that the Nordschleife was only one hour away. Thanks to the organisers for the weather and a great weekend of racing.
Top Hat results that I have; in my opinion; are incorrect. Leo's GT40 won but the second placed GT40 should surely have the same number of laps being some 30 seconds behind, not one lap down having finished two-and-a-half minutes before Leo. And the Jag MK11 drivers must know a short-cut! |

yes I saw that time and presumed it was running to HRSR not FIA spec!
also saw a Cortina GT a lot higher up than its best lap time would imply |

Can anyone explain to me how Leo came first with car 217 and then also about fiftieth with car 17 in the Top Hat race : http://users.skynet.be/ris2/2004/6h/9r.htm
I know there are stories about replica GT40's but cloning a clone to race twice simultaneously seems a bit like a science fiction story |
