do you need a specialist grade to volunteer for pits? i did plenty of time in pitlane in my early days as a marshal but got to enjoy the trackside more so never upgraded. i've never had anything to do at an F1 event (4 so far) while out on track so maybe if you need more bodies then volunteering for pits next time might be a good change?

Thank you boys and girls it was a pleasure.
We missed you though! It was odd not being all together...

Although I didn't have to see Daryl looking cheerful on Sunday morning having seen him in his pants on Saturday night so there was some good to come out of it

There is always LOADS to do in the pit lane, we don't stop, the points where everyone else has stand down time we are getting cars in and out, dealing with parc fermes, weighbridge and public walk abouts. If you want to be busy the pits is a good place to be, it is quite full on though with very little down time.

This year we had to man two pit lanes and it wasn't entirely clear how it would all work out and what bodies we would need where and how the timetable/walkabouts would pan out. We added some additional marshals but it was hard going and it would have been better to have some extras in the F1 pits to be able to give some stand down time. It was very much a trial year this year to work out what was needed.

If you fancy it then apply and/or talk to Ian Denyer who is Chief Pits, or Nick Allison, Stuart Champman or Darryl Burges who can give you some info. We're not short of applicants but would always welcome applications from experienced pit marshals.

Agreed, it was a great crew on the wall and in the support pit lane itself.

Best moment on track - watching Vettel try and fail to intimidate Hamilton by weaving around behind him on the way into Copse. You don't appreciate how violently an F1 car can change direction until you see it that close up.

The "Curry Club" is one way of getting a bunch of the Oulton marshals and family together and saving a bit of money on the evening meal food bill. This year the bill for the BBQ and the curry was a massive £4 (£2 per night)!!!!! You couldn't even get a burger for that price on the circuit.

Yes the racing was poor and if i was a speccy paying £100 on the Sunday for 4 races then i would have felt short changed. The weather was dire, mud in abundance on the campsite, traffic flow off the campsite after the GP was non existant but i did finally get out of the circuit at 6.01pm.

Will i do the GP next year? Yes, but only because of the laughs with fellow marshals, family and friends.
It was great to see the Curry Club regulars, along with some new faces, and an old member that hasn't been to the GP for many years. Welcome back, Terry. Don't leave it so long next time.

If anyone has any suggestions for next year's menu see me at Oulton. If it can be prepared on four gas rings or a BBQ I'l consider it.

Thanks to Tim and Keith for some good company on FP2. I wonder how many years experience we had between us?

I don't want to know! Don't have enough fingers to do the sums anyway!

Did you manage to count how many photos we were asked to be in? Don't think we beat Stuart though!

1st GP for me, and I think I may go again. Yes, quite a bit of not-a-lot happening and some messing around with demo laps, but not nearly as much as others here have suggested - I might well have been lucky, but must give it another go to find out.

The hardest part now is to watch all the TV coverage to see if I can see myself. I have spotted me with 17:31 left in Q1 as the cable-camera flies over the top.
Can't believe there's no coverage, even on you tube, of Super Marshal Running across a live track and picking up debris without breaking his stride.
No need for a safety car and he didn't fall over, eat your heart out Montreal.

And it could have been me instead!! Although from where we were stood at luffied in, we knew there was debris on the track but we thought it was much more in the middle of the track, so more suitable for someone from the centre to retrieve it.

oh and next time you fancy changing posts during a gp, would you mind bringing some tea and cakes with you please!!!

I would like to add my thanks to the guys (and Lady) on Luffield Centre, it was a very interesting post to be on for the weekend and I would love to do it again. The IO Bob Miller was a great guy, we all knew we had a job to do but we were also able to enjoy ourselves over the weekend. Shame about the bad planning on Saturday with the safety car demo, however you could tell on the radio race control were as frustrated as we were.

Many thanks to the team at Stowe Outside for a very enjoyable weekend despite the best efforts of the summer weather.

It was a pleasure working with you all.

True Neil, thank you too

I think we had the best circuit post for dodging the worst of the weather as it was always at our backs. We had our moments too - thankfully when it was somebody else's turn at writing the report

Thanks for the link to the photo Chris. I don't think we look too bad considering it was sunday morning.
Just wanted to add my thanks to all the guys and gals at Club. It was a pleasure to marshal with you. Hope you all made it out in one piece after the 'track invasion' and look forward to seeing you again soon
