Gerard, you'll be surprised to learn that both VAB and XKL 7 front wings have the original Austin profile, as seen in this pic of A105/6 760 CKM before we dragged it from its barn in 2004.
(Yes, it does still have that same 6-cyl engine block, slightly improved). VAB is an A95 Westminster I believe - Delta please correct me if I'm wrong. For some reason the upgraded A105/6 was not called a Westminster. Bodyshell was the same, just some changes in trim, foglamps, and a slight increase in power. XKL 7 as raced originally by John Young started out I believe as an A90 Westminster in the original short boot body style, which had been modified for rallying, hence the extra wiper. Jack Sears used a short boot A105/6 (TOL 563) which was only in production for a few months before switching to the final long boot style. There is an A50 race car, seen here at Goodwood 73MM. |

Thanks for the pics and stories behind those two cars, AGD! So, the extra wiper found the explanation. As to the Dinky, I'd say that beside the wings, the rims' ET is somewhat special!
I dont remember the Westie being imported here, at least on a regular basis. |

@AGD Thanks for the clarification re the Westminsters.... I wasnt far off. Seeing your 105/6 user name I bow to your obvious special interest and knowledge . (ie re. the wiper blade !)
Love the Dinky Toy) |

Interesting Car.
There was an A95 which was pretty competitive in Australian (particularly NSW) racing in the mid 50s. Run by Barry Gurdon who I think was the Nuffield/BMC dealer in Bathurst at the time. Resplendent in British Racing Green Was a bit overweight compared to the FX/FJ Holdens, but competitive on ant cicuit where it could stretch its legs Always put on a great show on his home circuit |

Apologies for thread drift but to follow the theme of racing Westminsters, another Australian took it even further - definitely modified front wings (various historic pictures I hasten to add):

They look like Special or Super Saloons that we used to race back in the 60s and 70s. |

VAB 719 is definitely a 105
I've never know a car to attract so much interest, whether at a race meeting or on the way to one. Nearly everyone over the age of 60 had an uncle who owned a 105 and took the whole family on trips to Hayling Island in it. The best story was at Donington, probably about 10 years ago. I was disconnecting the anti-roll bars as the weather was taking a turn for the worse. A guy (of a certain age) came up and said "Disconnecting the bars for wet weather? Good idea - that's what we used to do". It turned out he was a pretty good driver in his day in Westminsters but, for the life of me, I can't remember who he was. The late Jim Woodley took me round Goodwood for a few laps some years ago and I was surprised at how good the old girl was - minimal roll, much better brakes than I was expecting and a nice compact shape through the chicane. Anyway, Iain owns "VAB" now, so it's in safe hands. |

Without the mandatory piano on the roof, cant recognize it as being a Marina or an Allegro! More pictures from the hospital old fart?
