Has anyone heard anything of Gordon lately? He seems to have been very quiet since commenting about going for a scan about a month ago.

Hope he is OK.

ID:	83029Good morning guys, first of all I would like to send my condolences to Lancebreaker as I have only just read 10/10ths for a while.
The results of the scan showed two bulging discs in my lower back and all sorts of words on the report that you need the encyclopedia britannica to understand, what it is in real words is that my spine is f***** !
I suppose a life of motocrossing/banger racing/Hot Rods /sprinting/circuit racing and working as a mechanic for over 60 years has taken it's toll !
I have just returned from Spain and as most of you know Sue and I have been going and living there since the early 70s and luckily I am not restricted to the 90/180 day rule as Sue has an Irish passport that covers me as well. This time I took my 84 year old brother who has never been abroad or in an airplane in his life !!
At this moment I am living on pain killers that have moved the pain from my back to serious sciatica on my left leg that is stopping me doing just about anything that I want to do. Trying to teach my beautiful wife to split logs for the wood burner has caused a few arguments but we are not to the divorce state just yet
As we all know getting old is not fun especially if you are incapacitated in any way because we still think that we are all teenagers in our heads ! and it brings things home to you when you are constantly attending funerals of your friends especially when several are younger than you ! and we are going to one on Monday of one who was one of my race mechanic back in the 60s.
Anyway enough of this old waffle and back to some warm sun in a few weeks time for a while

Gordon, tell me about it, I am only eighteen years old, but somehow have inherited the body of a very old man, I wish he wanted it back. Since suffering from a seized back in early May, I have had nothing but problems ever since, several falls due to my right leg having become very weak, and down I go. Spending one night sitting on my office floor unable to get up, until 6.30am when Judy found me. When things seem to be improving - wallop- some fresh excitement crops up. Went to Bedford hospital for a back scan last Saturday, but could not lay still for ten minutes,so scan failed, however I did pick up a viral infection, so not a completely wasted journey (). Still living on Paracetamol, and wobbling around the flat, in constant danger of falling over again.
I hope this litany of misery cheers you up a bit knowing that you are not alone in your situation.

Bob.

Sorry to hear your woes, Gordon and Bob.

You are right about still thinking we are young, Gordon. In my head I'm still a young man then I look in the mirror and wonder what my dad is doing there.

Peter, I can only hope that I have a few more years left, but as to whether I can still be as fit as him (who was still gardening and mowing the lawn at 100) is anybody's guess
And who will look after my younger wife ? (mind you she has had plenty of offers over the years)

Good to hear you are still alive & well Gordon!

As you say, we all get old but there are exceptions (your father for one by the sound of it). Michele's father will be 94 next week & he's busy wearing the rest of the family out. Currently busy cooking food for a party on Sunday but still drives most days, does his garden, shopping etc. Nothing will stop him.

Yes my father was pretty amazing and we were lucky with him as he was never any trouble to the family, after my mother died he lived on his own in the family house for years. He seemed to will himself to get to the magic "ton" and got his card from Queen Elizabeth and then started to go down hill fast and died 7 months later. So none of the problems like being an invalid or being in OAP homes. As perfect a way to go as you could

Thanks, Gordon, and of course everyone else for your thoughts. Sorry to hear that Gordon and Bauble are suffering - as another who in my head might be prepared to accept the onset of my 30s, only to be caught out by the harsh realities of a body in fact well into its 70s I empathise.....

Good to see, you here, LB, and able to see the lighter side of life, even if it just the end of the tunnel. Thanks for your thoughts, I am feeling lot better today - how far away is that tunnel?

Still, life can get away from you, sometimes
