My first experience of racing was at Brands Hatch. Way back in 1973 . After you had completed the introductory corse “this I recall was a few laps with instructor “”. There after it cost £35.00 for each race these were held on Saturday mornings . I was rubbish but had a lot of fun racing the Escort Mexico school cars . So after 45 odd years I shall have another go . 😀

Sorry, can’t help Bud. I used a 3.77 in my Gp1 car, the 3.54 is standard RS2 road fitment and I thought bit low (numerically).....

Iain
There is a 3.54/1 on ebay at the moment 263515730570.
No ideas if the price is good or not - no call for these in a 500!

Its the same at the other end of the scale. elans and LC's use 4.4 and 4.7, genuine Ford 4.4's are commanding strong money, someone suggested £450 + vat for a minter a few years ago! I've never seen s a genuine Ford 4.7, mines a repro.

Rally guys are always looking for the low ratios, so they are much in demand! There was a time when you could pick up a NOS crown wheel and pinion set, and when I was restoring my RS16 road car I found a guy selling a huge range of ratios bought from Ford years ago, no doubt when they were clearing stock!

The repro CWPs now seem to be much better quality than few years ago. I’ve had Ford and MG sets that have performed well. Maybe something to do with where they are made? Clue is the gear mesh quality when built up. If it looks poor, the unit will be......

Thanks Mike.

Will have to look for a copy tomorrow.

I went to the Brit GT and F3 media day today.

Lots of Historic names - Aston Martin, Jaguar, McLaren, Mercedes, Bentley for example - but a rather different proposition.

On the plus side the F3 opportunity apparently comes with an annual budget requirement of around a quarter of a million GBP or a tad less which, oddly perhaps, seems very reasonable compared to a few years ago and even compared to top level kart racing.

Apologies for the temporary excursion.

I have some Mk1 panels, bonnet, boot lid, o/s/f wing, all have been acid dipped so not in good condition but good for patching etc.

No ideas, but they’re same as any Escort Mk1 model, which should make easier to find.... Be careful to check for brake drum offset if source isn’t known, as from memory Mk2 flanges we’re slightly different, and if fitted to Mk1 the drums weren’t exactly in line with shoes.....

I’ve done a bit of reasearch on English axle Escort half shafts, and they’re not all the same! Appears to be different part numbers for different models, but differences could be due to the flange and brake size fitted.... Reading through various forum threads on the topic finds the occasional poster stating that RS2000 shafts were thicker, but without any evidence to substantiate. Certainly Mk2 RS2000 shafts were different to Mk1, the flange centre being altered.

Gp1 halfshafts are the ultimate answer, but at an ultimate price....
