GTE/GTLM 2016 discussion

I think a new general thread would be useful. There was one during the convergence talks but that's now old info.

http://www.dailysportscar.com/2015/0...ey-points.html

ACO press conference slides shows drawings with the "freedom box" areas:

http://www.24h-lemans.com/wpphpFichi...n-11juin15.pdf

Quote:
"The [changes invoce (sic)] 'freedom boxes,' those areas that we're allowed to open up from the road car," an engineering consultant for Ford's Le Mans program tells us. "That includes length of the diffuser, where it starts, and what you can do with the front underwing. All those rules have changed now. I'll be surprised if the Ferrari 488 rear doesn't look like that, too."

Basically, consider the Ford GT LM a preview of how GTE rear aero will look in the future. Results?

"We figure the cars will probably do 3 seconds a lap quicker around Sarthe, at least that's what our simulators say."

MitchZ06 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
It's also "GT Premium" or GTP next year, no more GTE after Dec 31.

Only place I've seen it mentioned is in that pdf but it might have taken out of context because for example on p. 12 it still says GTE. But it sure is a funny nickname.

Looks like the thread title doesn't anymore update even after editing it.

I'm going to find it weird calling these cars GTPs next year. When I think of a GTP, I think of cars like these.

It gets called GTE everywhere else because it's been said so little...

Will always be GT2 in my heart..I do wonder if the people who thought up GT Premium were drunk again. Hopefully in 2020 we can move onto calling the class Le Mans Passenger Car.

The good news is that we will can see all of that cars in september.

Will Porsche find a way to get enough air to the rear diffusor of the 911?

Porsche dont seem to have the ability to match other teams in outright pace anymore, i wonder if they will develop the cayman into a GTE/GTP/GT car?

Why don't they just go to GT1 (2016 GTE-Pro), GT2 (2015 GTE-Am), and GT3 (FIA GT3) in 2016? Does that just make way too much sense?

Also wonder if the new 2016 GTE rules will lure McLaren to the class?

It would mess up all the useful wikipedia articles about that topic...

After all the renaming the GT cars went through the years, I honestly don't care about this anymore. Let them name them to what they want to.
