In what may do you mean 'disastrous'?
Jo Clarke did a couple of races in a very bad car
James Levy did one race with no testing in an unreliable car
Nick James's Integra was never class of the field
Bryce Wilson only did 1 (or 2) rounds
Antonio Russo never actual raced in the BTCC

Is the criteria a bad driver, a bad car, someone who crashed a lot, or something else ???

O'Schumacher should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Alfa Fan clearly meant Steven (Steve) Robertson who drove not so badly for a dismal ford team in 1996 alongside Paul Radisch. It is only the fact that Radisich (whom i believe really was so quick, but whose pace was masked by rubbish cars from 1996-1998) outclassed him that pepole thought he was a no-hoper.

My vote as worst ever BTCC driver (that I can remember)goes to Gianni Morbidelli.

Controversial. Well, in 1998 he drove a Volvo 850 that was the class of the field, and still couldn't even get on the podium. Even Craig Baird was better.

Nettan Lindgren was actually half decent! She won a class B race in 1990, yes I know all the front runners fell off, but she kept her head under presure from 2 cars right behind!

And as for her crashing alot in 1991 is absolute ****! She did about 4 races in 1991 and the only time (i think) she fell off, is when she was pushed off!

btw, who the hell is Steve Robinson! I think you will find it's Steve Robertson!

I'm not voting! They all had there reasons to be off pace, bar Robertson!

I think its very difficult to pick a worst driver. Its generally down to machinery. Alfa fan i agree with redshoes to say someone is a bad driver with little evidence is ridiculous.

Its the same as saying Alain menu is a bad driver because you have only seen the 2001 DTM season.

Almost impossible to pick because of the loose criteria! Yeah, none of the drivers in the poll were amazing in the BTCC, but there were plenty of reasons. Looking at the likes of Paula Cook, Bryce Wilson, James Levy and Nick James, they all had success in lower classes but never got the right cars to put in the performances.

All of the other drivers never really shone, but there were plenty of reasons.

If I had to choose, I would go for someone like Radermacker, Morbidelli or J-C Boullion - who had loads of racing experience and a potential championship winning car but never really got going!

I'll agree with everyone else who has commented that it just seems to be a random list of "desasterous" drivers.
If I've got to vote for someone then can I say Russell Spence, if only for the fence vaulting exploits at Oulton

I'll add a vote for Spence too - this time for getting a puncture just before the pitlane at Silverstone and trying to make it round for another lap. He didn't.

I agree with Carrie & Masie, Russell Spence. When he was announced at the start of the '99 season I thought 'oh no!'.

Poor old Russell was always a bit wild, anyone remember the Birmingham Superprix, when he stalled his car and sat in it hoping for a restart - the marshall's had to winch the car off with him still sat in it!

Just about everytime there was a red flag back in '99 you just knew Russell was off into the scenery somewhere. I think arena got through 3 shells after only a handfull of races.

He had a 'biggie' on the Brands Indy, shortening the front of the Laguna by about 18", then the Oulton shunt sort of capped it really.

I'm afraid to say my vote would be for Paula Cook.
Tried F3 - failed.
Tried BTCC - ditto.

There's no way anyone could vote for Nettan after the roasting she gave Jonathan Palmer, spectacularly captured on his in-car camera!!!

I didn't think Paula was too bad, and I thought she also did well in the Elise - anyone else remember that titanic battle with Gwyndaf Evans at Silverstone?

didn't paula take off Aiello in the first Donington round in 1999 after he started from the back??

I don't think it's really fair to bash people like Morbidelli and Baird because moving from rear wheel drive to front wheel drive can be extremely difficult for drivers to adapt to. I know that Mike Fitzgerald had trouble with that when he races the Realtime Acura Type R last year in the Speedvision Touring Championship. Now that Mike is back in a rear wheel drive car, he is doing very well.

That's fair. I remember Andy Rouse debuting the Mondeo at either Snett or Thruxton (time dims the memory!!!), getting 'helped' into a tank-slapper and then admitting he made it worse by reacting as if it was a rear-driver and lifting off instead of steering in the direction he wanted to go and planting it.

If you have been bought up driving one end of the car, it must be difficult when the adrenaline is going to instinctively adapt to driving t'other end.

Also see Nigel Mansell, Donnington, Toca Shootout

Actually based on the criteria so far you could include Mansell in this list. Apart from the Donnington feature race his part season in the Mondeo was pretty disatrous.

How about Russell Spence in the Renault Laguna back in '99?? They ended up letting him "Pursue other interests" and brought back Will Hoy to race? I wonder what would the championship have looked like if Will Hoy raced from the beginning of the season, instead of the latter half?
