DCS should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Rallycross: rare TV footage

When we (in Holland) had Rallycross on the telly I can remember some strange footage:

- Some outside the circuit racing in England, with Thor Holm, Will Gollop and Pat Doran (in BP livery), I think it was in Castle Combe don't know for sure

- A bunch of roadgoing RS200's at Lydden Hill, I think it was 1991

- Terje Schie in 24h of Chamonix

But I've heard there has been more, like on Blue Peter or howabout some bloke (TopGear?) sitting alongside John Welch as we can see in the Rallycross World video.. And there are some rumors about a duel with a F1 car... And what about the Pikes Peaks appearences?

Would like to see some of those!

The castle thing was probably the show stage, when in one year prior to the Lydden ECR some cars raced up to Dover castle on Friday eve...?
Terje Schie shared his 205 E2 once at Chamonix with Frenchman Philippe Gache, who was soon faster with the car than its owner...
The first RX driver at Pikes Peak was Martin Schanche in 1984. After about 1/3 of the distance he was timed 11 seconds faster than later winners Mouton/Pons (yep, Mouton drove it like a rally stage than...) but had a puncture (rh front tyre) on his Xtrac XR3 just a few moments later. Crazy Martin drove the remaining 2/3 on three wheels and was hailed by the US guys to be the first competitor ever to make the summit limping...
Other RX drivers that gave ol' Pikes Peak a try were: Matti Alamäki (Porsche 4WD), Olle Arnesson (S1), Thor Holm (RS200), Tore H. Bratlie (6R4 or RS200?), Per Eklund (Saab), if no one forgotten – some of those not just once.

About F1: Somewhere in my big mess is an old copy of a Finnish mag. They once organised an acceleration test with Matti Alamäki in his Porsche 911 BiTurbo 4WD and Christian Danner in the Barclay F1 with timing at 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, 160 and 180kmph and Alamäki was at five or six of the seven measure points faster than Danner. However, I think nowadays a top RX car could beat a F1 up to about 120kmph or so...

The Blue Peter coverage, was of presenter John Leslie when he drove a Vauxhall Nova Challenge car at Croft. He was given some training by the late great Dave Metcalfe. The main thing I rememeber about that meeting was Leslie had his current girlfriend with him...... Catherine Zeta Jones
I think I still have the programme somewhere on video.

One of the UK car mags did something similar back in the mid-80's, between (from memory) an Escort Xtrac (either Schanche's or John Welch's) and an F1 Lotus

Probably Welchie's car. If it was Schanche's Xtrac I would have heard about it.
