I would think that it's a new lmp3 considering it became onroak core business during last years, but the coupé section doesn't look wide enough to be a lmp3 car. To reveal a next gen lmp2 now doesn't make much sense to me considering there are still 2 years to go to get final homologation for 2024 debut.
Is it possible for chassis manufacturers to introduce a new current spec lmp2 to race in 2022 and 2023 and to replace the poor and slow js p217?

You're right, it isn't a Riley anymore, that name is just stuck in my head!

I agree on weird timing if it is a next gen P2, but not sure they would be allowed to offer an upgrade to the current car, and since nobody runs it not sure what the point would be?

I suspect it might be some kind of track day only car, which might then be allowed to race somewhere given enough time.

no clue, maybe power output potential? raceability? And this isn't confirmed on a contract I suppose. Maybe they want to go with a Le Man's winning engine?

That's cool! I actually like the Ford GT V6 sounds. By far the best turbo engine sound in the modern sport car era. Nowhere near as muted as others. Sounds like a throaty Group C era machine or a Group B rally car.
I shrugged off the Ford idea when Zak Brown made a strong hint a while ago about working with a "historic partner" in LMDh. I immediately thought of CanAm McLaren Chevrolet, then McLaren F1 BMW (both not happening in LMDh) and then Ford, but it seems too far fetched.

well, the '90s nissan based ricardo reworked engines aren't exactly the most reliable engines of this world... they improved on that only very recently... is not that difficult to understand why mclaren could use old ford gt V6 that revealed to be powerful, efficient and quite reliable both in GT and DP trim. Not to mention that a compact V6 is easier to fit... basically the same reason why is complicated to predict which engine bmw is going to use since M4 gt3 L6 engine should be too long and M8 gte V8 was crazy huge and wide due the unusual turbos placement.
PS about mclaren, now I remember ricardo produced for mclaren a new V6 this year.

If this comes to fruition, there will be some good sound diversity in LMDh. GM seems to want to continue with the NA V8, Acura continues with their V6 turbo, Porsche and Audi a V8 turbo, BMW tbd, and the Ford V6 turbo. All have different sounds and will be a treat trackside!
