The fantastic new Snetterton.

Having just arrived back from the first open and testing day of the newly revamped circuit i have to say that it is fantastic and beyond my vision of how i thought it would be, despite inside information and press releases.

Spectators are in for an absolute treat pretty well everywhere and especially at the revised Russell.

I guess i,m slightly biased as i live so close and have known and raced the different layouts there since 1969, but this concept is terrific.

All credit to JP and MSV, all staff and the contractors.

Whether it pleases all drivers, marshalls or spectators remains to be seen, but it will improve motorsports outlook for this circuit and the future.

I am so looking forward to the new season and racing there.

A million thanks MSV.

It is indeed wonderful. Once it dries out and the grass grows, it will look terrific. Some of my pics from today. Come along everyone to the first meeting on March 19/20 and see for yourselves!

Plus another couple of million too! But worth every penny!! Thank you MSV for giving all us Snet fans the best 60th Birthday present ever!!

Like Graham I have been involved in various marshalling roles since 1969 and more recently as a Clerk and I would say this is the most challenging and yet still fast flowing configuration ever. To confirm Graham and Andrew's comments the circuit is absolutely fantastic.

Spent the day marshalling on the double apex right hander (turn 6) leading back towards the link to Revett and the marshalling teams will really love marshalling the new circuit, due to the visibility that it offers and I'm sure the drivers will really appreciate the new challenges it will provide.

Had a mix of cars including F2, F Renault, FBMW, FFord, Mosler, Porsche and BMW's out on circuit and they all seemed to enjoy it and find plenty of overtaking opportunities on the new infield section.

So for anyone still sitting on the fence - get an entry in quick and make sure you are a part of something that will be brilliant - competing on what is now the best circuit in the country!!

Great to see Andrew and Richard S at our post this morning and also good to see the famed Richard S's effect is still functioning well this new season - only arrived with us and within about two minutes we have a F2 spun and stranded requiring a stop to recover!!

Graham, sorry didn't get chance to catch up with you - saw your van in the paddock lunchtime but didn't manage to find you.

My thoughts echo those of Graham, Andrew and Terry .. absolutely brilliant. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and was astounded by the number of excellent photo angles offered by the new layout. I was in my element !! The infield section offers the drivers and the spectators a whole new world to enjoy. Snett is no longer flat ! Congratulations go to J P for his commitment to Snett and the massive amount of work put in by Jamie and the staff at the circuit, not forgetting Graham and the contractor lads for a super-human effort. Well done to all concerned. All that is left now is for everyone to turn up and enjoy it, you wont regret it. A few pics from today can be seen on Andrew C's racing exposure site.

I had the good fortune to be at the circuit on Tuesday, when it was still a construction site (perhaps it still is, I'm not sure) and actually got a chance to drive around it - albeit slowly in a road car

Perhaps I can upload some video of it later.

To echo everyone's comments - it really is a fantastic circuit, and I think everyone will love it. The layout lends itself to a great testing venue (as ever) and with some really challenging new (fast!) corners.

The construction crews have been working from 7am to 7pm through the recent months, and even through driving snow! Their hard work has been well managed by Jamie, Debs and all at Snetterton, and the result really is top of the class, and a credit to all who have worked so hard since the diggers moved in in November.

I just wish Tyrrells wasn't made of so much metal, and whilst the new spectator banks are a great thing for the spectators, they're a bugger to get a radio signal through!

Looking forward to driving the circuit properly later in the year

Looks great, plenty of tarmac for the late brakers/missed turn in point in turn two One thing I think will be changed is where the kerbing ends in 3,there will be lots of 'kerb huggers' using all of the inside eventualy having to use the grass when the run out of kerb!

Called in on Sunday - and never seen the paddock so packed just for a track day - lets hope the new circuit continues to atract the increased number of punters as per JP's plans - circuit looks stunning - new Russell included. I will see if I have a spare box of fast growing grass seed in my garden shed I can donate if not will setup a welly boot stall on race days

I agree..but Sear was never called 'Sears' diddy. In my opinion, Oliver Sear and Jim Russell should still receive recognition for all they did in Snett's history. There are plenty of un-named straights for example.

I'm absolutely outraged that "Russell" corner has been renamed "Murrays" presumably after some wannabe Scottish tennis player. Jim Russell did more to promote motor sport to the ordinary man or woman than any other person alive and is synonymous with Snetterton.

As for naming a corner after "Nelson", who as far as I know never sat in a racing car, and another after his consort Lady Hamilton I really do give up.

Letter writing mode engaged.

If there was going to be a name change Russell had to be favourite. I believe there was calls for it to be changed when Jim Russell pulled the plug at Snet many years ago. I was hoping for a corner to be named after Brian Lister or Jim's most famous pupil Emerson Fitttipaldi.
I don't think Lewis Hamilton deserves a name, he has hardly any association with the circuit and why wasn't the straight between Palmer's (T3) & Agostini (T4) named.
BTW Oggies is named after Sir Peter Ogden, co-founder of MSV

Instead of presuming, have a read of the press release:

http://www.motorsportvision.co.uk/ne...sp?NewsID=6492

Murray's is named after Murray Walker.

Whatever they chose it was going to be a case of pleasing some of the people, some of the time...

I think Murray's is a brilliant name for that particular corner. I think Brundle and Nelson sound like a good combo.

Glad the Bomb-Hole made it through. My only real disappointment is the renaming of the Revett Straight.

Many people think this but... Emerson never was a Jim Russell pupil.
He started with his own FF Merlyn and won from the start, Jim saw his potential and organised an F3 car for him mid-season and became his manager. His F3 car was sponsored by Jim's racing school. Emmo never did the school course, he was already a multiple Brazilian F.Vee winner when he arrived in the UK. Jim admitted there was little he could teach him anyway, a 'natural'.

All I can say is that it saddens me that Oliver Sear is no longer part of Snett .. I guess the majority of people attanding Snett now have no idea who he was anyway ! Oh what a shame. Love the new circuit ... hate most of the new corner names .. sorry Snett.

I know. I was present driving at Snetterton that day and he was so fast out of the blocks it was unbelievable.

BTW as for "Murrays" being after a tennis player, I was trying to be funny.....obviously didn't work.
