Well sadly it wasn't to happen this year... won't bore you with all the details here (on the evo site under the blogs if you are interested) but fair to say we fought the fight... and we lost! Barely knocked on the door of 240mph so about 100mph short of our target.
But we'll be back in 2011 and by the sounds of it, with a film crew right behind us!
Cheers for all the kind wishes on here
Rick

How's your plans for 2011 going?

I'm doing my own little speed record bid next weekend - going for some UK class G diesel records at Pendine Sands piggy-backing on Don Wales Bluebird electric attempt. Don's after helpers, particularly to "fod" the beach, if anyone fancies it...

Good luck with that Sir!! Keep us all posted!

The Flower went in the truck yesterday... off to the dock today for a boat to Bonneville on Sunday!

Looking resplendent with her new nose job ;-)

Now if I could only remember how to post photos...

Cheers

Original date was cancelled, but ran at Pendine this weekend and (subject to MSA ratification) took three UK speed records in class G: 1-mile, 1/4-mile and 500m flying start. Speeds were a bit disappointing (sand really slows you down & out-and-back runs were 15mph different due to wind) but learnt a lot about speed record setting.

Any news from Bonneville?

Do they have speed events at Pendine, or was this just a private run for you?

No events at Pendine I'm afraid - you have to hire the beach, timekeepers, stewards, fire engines, ambulances, etc. yourself. I piggybacked on the Bluebird Electric attempt.

Well another tough Speed Week...
Full story appearing slowly on www.efgmotorracing.com

But suffice to say I managed only 270mph this year... which is a lot faster than last year but still 50mph shy of where we're targeting...

Does make me faster than any German ever though I think!

Cheers
Rick

Caracciola did 271mph in 1937 - but only one-way (average was 268mph)

Good effort!

Does the streamliner come back to the UK after Bonneville. Could you mop up some British records here...?

As I understand it, the streamliner is only fitted with aluminium wheels and as such is unable to run anywhere other than on the salt - so there is no opportunity to do any 'out of season' testing (if there is such a thing as an out of season for salt), or any running elsewhere for any other record purpose

I await others with greater knowledge than I to tell me I am wrong - certainly won't be the first time today!!

This is so unfair, but being a Triumphero, I have to bring this to your attention.
http://www.tssc.org.uk/index.php?opt...id=67496#67505

The fastest Triumph in the World, and it's a GT6
Just 305.596mph

WhooooooooHoo!

I do remember reading the Noble book and he found that the steel/ally wheels really didnt wrok that well on the salt, one of the reasons hte went to Black Rock.

But I imagine that was because his car was jet powered and needed grip rather than traction and that car was very heavy.

Awesome thing to get involved in actually, one mf my ambitions in life is to go to the salt and feel what it's like.

Would be awesome to go out and help with a Brit (sort of) team. Just to see the place, hear the noise.

In fairness anything near 300mph is going some, as many found in teh 60's/70's, you need a lot of power, aero and bravery!!

I've just been reading an article about the latest progress of Bloodhound SSC, the latest Noble project. Their design seeks no lift and no downforce, else the solid wheels will dig into the soft salt, which will be in South Africa, not Bonneville. They need TWELVE miles of run, not the seven or eight that Bonneville can offer (I think, from memory).
You can of course join the Bloodhound Supporters Club, http://www.bloodhoundssc.com/supporters_club.cfm though I don't suppose that gets you a front seat at a record attempt.

Don't know if visits are possible, but my car club (the marque, not the racing lot) are having a run to the Bloodhound Technical Centre in Bristol next month.
