Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix - Predictions Contest 2022 - Round 4 - Results

Hats off to steve_r on a hat-trick of wins.

His victory in Emilia-Romagna sees him extend his lead from 8 to 30 points, although that margin is now over TrapezeArtist, as BTCC frog falls to 3rd. Other big movers and shakers include Gnussi, who rises from 10th to 5th after finishing the round as runner-up and gert, who drops from joint-3rd to 8th.

Stay at it everyone, even if you missed a round, as there's still plenty to play for.

The first sprint of the season gave us a great opportunity to score mega points and sure enough - we didn't see that! Some rather unpredictable results led to a more typical range of scores, but the round was no less exciting for that.

An apology - I made an oversight in my writing of the rules of sprints. It read:

Quote:
A driver in the top 8 who is 7 places out of his finishing position: 1 point per driver

A driver in the top 8, 6 places out of finishing position: 2 points

A driver in the top 8, 5 places out of finishing position: 3 points

A driver in the top 8, 4 places out of finishing position: 4 points

A driver in the top 8, 3 places out of finishing position: 5 points

A driver in the top 8, 2 places out of finishing position: 6 points

A driver in the top 8 in his exact finishing position (except winner): 7 points

The winning driver: 8 points
This meant that no points would be awarded for having a driver in the top 8, 1 place out of finishing position. I have therefore amended the rules retrospectively in a way that I hope will be satisfying to everyone and such that you can see the original intention. They now read as follows and are scored that way for this round and the remaining sprints of the season:

A driver in the top 8 who is 7 places out of his finishing position: 1 point per driver

A driver in the top 8, 6 places out of his finishing position: 2 points

A driver in the top 8, 5 places out of his finishing position: 3 points

A driver in the top 8, 4 places out of his finishing position: 4 points

A driver in the top 8, 3 places out of his finishing position: 5 points

A driver in the top 8, 2 places out of his finishing position: 6 points

A driver in the top 8, 1 place out of his finishing position: 7 points

A driver in the top 8 in his exact finishing position (except winner): 8 points

The winning driver: 9 points

What happened in Emilia-Romagna

The most interesting stat is that out of the 110 Grand Prix finishing positions to predict (with 11 entrants), there were just 2 in their right place, and that was for the winner Verstappen, guessed by steve_r and Beau2.

Gnussi had the most top 10 finishers, with 7. Understandably, the missing ones were Vettel, Stroll and Tsunoda. gert had the fewest, with 4 (Leclerc, Pérez, Norris and Bottas).

Gnussi also had the joint-highest number of sprint finishers, with 6, alongisde TrapezeArtist and smellysocks. All 3 had the same finishers (albeit in a different order), with Ricciardo and Bottas missing and erroneously included, the two Mercedes drivers. Everyone else had 4 or 5 people in the sprint.

Accuracy in prediciting sprint points-scoring finishers was slightly higher than for the Grand Prix, 62.5% to 55.45%.

No sprint finisher was predicted more than 3 places outside their actual finishing position.

All 11 predicted Leclerc, Verstappen and Pérez in their top 10s.

The most common erroneous top 10 finisher was, of course, Sainz. Everyone but chunterer erroneously predicted Hamilton to finish in the points,

The most common missing real top 10 finishers were, unsurprisingly, based on past form, Tsunoda, Vettel and Stroll, not predicted by anyone.

crmalcolm and steve_r were the only people to put Verstappen as the sprint winner.

McLaren were guessed as fastest pit stop holders by just TrapezeArtist and steve_r. Verstappen as Driver of the Day was predicted by only TrapezeArtist, steve_r and Beau2, while Red Bull as Team of the Grand Prix was anticipated by just steve_r and Beau2.

Verstappen was predicted as Driver of the Grand Prix by only Beau2 and crmalcolm.

No-one anticipated anything other than dry conditions.

smellysocks should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Add both your scores together and you are in 1st place!

Don't worry. You've got them mixed up. It's your doppelganger who is straggling.
