Ah, Steve. Now you've set me off although, alas, I was only there "at the end" of the series, circa 1989.

My wonderful "uncle Derek" (Ongaro) took me to Lydden Hill as guests of Tom Bisset who then owned the circuit. It was so he could look at the truck racing that was going on (he was still involved in circuit safety at the time) - where the marshal posts should be, etc.

The best race of the day, to my mind, was between two P100's who swapped places throughout and the result was in doubt right to the flag. Shame they couldn't get points as there "weren't enough competitors".

This was before I actually started marshalling and, having watched a truck smash into the bank and move it (made of tyres and soil grassed over), I never did marshal any trucks!

So P100s, UTEs or any other pickup would be great at the 24Hrs. But NO trucks!!!

My favourite memory of the Britcar was of the driver who appealed on tenths for pictures of his car number 97. I sent him this picture saying that I id not have no. 97 but I did have a snap of number 7;

He wrote that it was his car but that due to dent in the door the 9 was hidden.

Silly me. I should have realised.

I remember P100s racing. If my memory serves, they were a bit tail happy because of all the weight being at the front. Didn't Tiff Needell drive one (possibly even won the championship)?

Anyone seen an up to date entry list? Before Xmas, numbers stood at about 35, with some drivers still to be confirmed.

Not bad with 3 months still to go!

I've seen that before, [not just with Britcar] - I wouldn't book any B&B's just yet

Was it really only 30 on the last one? Seemed more, maybe because it was my first 24hr race I didn't really notice the lack of cars.

There were 33 cars (according to TSL); of which 26 finished.

I think the entry list on the Britcar entry list has not been updated for a while, so it is entirely feasible that the final grid may be a bit higher than current indications.

There were just enough. Helped by the fact that few retired and the lead battle was a real tortoise and hare affair which remained fascinating right up to the time it started raining.

I can't help but read that in an Eric Idle voice

Back on track, was it last time that, by 23 hours in, the leaders were separated by 0.9 seconds? Regardless, while the drop in numbers was noticeable compared the the previous year, I'd hardly call the thing dull. I certainly enjoyed it, inspite of nearly going home on Saturday lunchtime owing to illness. I decided to drop in for the start and maybe to catch the first hour, and ended up not wanting to leave.

I registered an interest on the Britcar 24 website (the link I clicked on opened up an email. I'm afraid I have no idea where on the site this link was. I've slept since then). However, I've heard nothing back from it. I did the the Britcar 24 in 2012 and loved it. Very pleased it's back this year

http://www.britcar24hr.co.uk/home/of...sion-interest/ Here is the link I registered an interest many month ago and got an email back saying
Very nice to hear from you.

The 24hr requires a huge amount of support from people like you and we would very much like the help.
We are starting to draw together the plans for the marshals so I don’t have any definitive information as yet, but I have added your email address to our mailing list, which will send you the information as and when it is available.

I then got an email or some mail through the post over Christmas wishing me a merry Christmas but nothing since. As a precaution I also volunteered on the BMMC website not sure if I should have I think the organising club is the BRSCC
Hope this helps

Hello Orange,
I am chief marshal for Britcar 24 hours.
James from Britcar has passed me a list of emails they received and I will be contacting those on that list next week. It is difficult to know if some on that list are already volunteered via another route as well. If anyon that has contacted Britcar wants to email me direct I would appreciate that. roys1@blueyonder.co.uk
Regards Roy
