G_Ilott should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
What's happening in British motorsport?

I've been away from motorsport for the past 2 years and when I say "away" I mean I've stuck my head in the sand, apart from watching a few Caterham races on TV. I haven't even read Autosport.

So what are the good series now? Is Powertour still going? What are the series with few cars that had loads in 2000? Are the Minis still nuts? How about the classic touring cars - still running? Mustangs, angle boxes and MK2s?

How about the Radicals? Where are they racing now?

If there's a series out there that MUST be seen, what is/ are they?

I know I could trawl for days winkling bits and bobs from the web's nooks and crannies, but why should I when I can wear your fingers out... and it keeps you off the streets.

I reckon that you ought to give the 750 motor club a try they certainly have the most entries you are likely to see at a race meeting these days..... Their must see championships are:-
Stock Hatch
Hot Hatch
Formula Vee
Kit Cars
Locosts
Road Going Bike Engined Sports Cars
They have a comprehensive web site that includes a calender, which details what is on.
Most of their meetings are over two days and it pays to look at their schedules to see which is the best day.
There is a good one coming up at Cadwell Park on 28th/29th June.

As far as the "professional" champs are concerned grids are pretty poor generally except for the F3's which are excellent.....the only down side to them is the fact that you have to endure turgid races for TVR's and GT's, which are both pretty well "dead in the water".

I have to totally agree with what has been said here so far!

Radicals were at silverstone last weekend, they were ok, but not the best racing I've seen!

Maisie is right the minis are still giving a good show but worryingly their numbers are dropping off.........at Castle Combe recently there were 17 Miglias and and ONLY 23 Se7ens. The Miglia race was good but the se7ens' were not that entertaining.... I cant help feeling that these championships are suffering through their association with the F3 / GT programme, in much the same way that the TVR's have.
I think that Minis need to regroup and become the main attraction at meetings as they used to be.

I'd rather hack my own leg off than sit through a day of Radicals

I have to confess I haven't seen Miglias or Se7ens this year, but don't overlook the Mighty and Super Mighty Minis series which get consistently good grids and the best racing you'll see all year!

Classic Saloons etc have grown into what BARC refer to as a classic package incorporating various saloons, sports cars and single seaters from that era.
It draws quite large crowds and is well worth a look.

Yeah there is still some good racing out there!!!!
Powertour (Powersnore) is dead - now just run as F3/GTs without all the promotion. BRSCC have set up a superclub series which I think the Radicals are part of (sounds like powersnore all over again!)

Are the Classic Saloons what Peter M(help me out here) who used to post on these forums drove in? I loved Classic Thunder and so forth.

What is SEMSEC?

Do the Thoroughbred sportscars still race? 1960's TVR Griffiths, Astons, etc.

I saw Mustangs and angle boxes on the TV - BTCC from Thruxton. Which series is that? It's exactly the type I like.

Highlights for me so far this season:
BRSCC Alfa championship at Silverstone, close exciting races with plenty of noise and unusually large grids for this year.
AMOC Aston championship at Mallory, close exciting racing with plenty of noise and large grid, (plus Gerry Marshall)!
FORCE F1/F5000 race at Donington, close exciting racing with a lot of loud noise and surprisingly large grid.

The best meeting of the year will take place at Silverstone on June 28th when the Aston Martin Owners club have their annual visit to silverstone. The Aston race there will probably be the best race of the year at a british track. If you dont believe me then go and see for yourself, you will be very pleasantly surprised.

G-Ilot, Peter Mallett does still post on this forum, when he's in a country that has the internet, that is. He races in Group 1 of the Classic Touring Car Racing Club, everything from Mustangs and Anglias to pre '90 saloons and Classic thunder for good measure.

BRSCC Alfa's have good close racing and plenty of cars top choose from.

From Dorset, the closest races will be Brands, (August 15/16) or Lydden (Sept 20/21), others at Cadwell, Oulton, Donington, Snetterton etc.

That should tell you everything you need to know, there are classes for just about everything with 4 wheels.

Are the CTCRC at Combe or Thruxton this year? I can't find their website. It used to be www.csccgb.co.uk didn't it?

Lydden a bit too far for me I'm afraid.

This is what's happening in British motorsport. This is an average British Motorsport week:
Day one: Couple of races like British superbikes, BTCC, et al.....
Day two: Track sold to foreign investor.
Day three: New roads into Silverstone constructed.
Day four: See day two.
Day five: Silverstones future in doubt again.
Day six: Silverstone struck off Formula One calendar.
Day seven: See days two and four.
