I agree, if you are allowed stand in between the start fiinsh straight & the entry to bottom of mountain so can get the racing close up twice per lap

We normally do Charlies exit (can see gooseneck too) and either top or bottom of mountain in either grandstand.

Should be a great meeting.

Mark Skyline should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Hi All

What a weekend we had at Cadwell Park racing in the Thunder Saloons!!!!!!!!

First of all, need to thank John Hill and Steve Hall for all their help this weekend. Cheers guys and thank you very much indeed. I could not have done it without you both.

Where do I start? I qualified 3rd on the grid, with a 1.33.361 lap: was a bit disappointed, but, as it has been the best part of ten years since I visited Cadwell Park, I guess I should be reasonably happy.

So, race1 - From 3rd position, I tried to make a fast move on Garrie on the first lap, but his closed the door on me, putting me onto the grass a bit. I was thinking at that point, "oh my god, I need knobbly tyres as this track is not big enough for the both of us" and I lost this time on that move lol. So, I sat behind him for the next attempt!!!!!!. On the second lap, I came out onto the start straight and nailed the car as hard as possible and managed to catch up and pass Garrie with the smallest of gaps, and I mean smallest, putting me on the grass again lol. I then tried to catch up with Andy Robinson in his 7.2lt Ford Falcon. It took me one lap to do this and, as we came onto the back straight, I again let rip with the Skyline and passed Andy. Thanks for being so fair in the room you gave me mate. So off I went in the lead, but just after passing Andy, the race was stopped and the win was given to Andy, as the result went back one lap.I did manage to get the fastest lap with a 1.32.175

Now race 2 - From my experience of race one, I knew I had to get the lead as fast as possible and make a run for it. As soon as the lights went out, I shot down the start straight and manageed to get in front of Andy, but he pressurised me considerably for the first few laps. I just kept my head together and went as fast as I could without making too many mistakes. This paid off, as I opened up a good lead and won the race with a new club lap record for this class of 1.31.534.

Thanks to everyone involved in making the Thunder Saloons such a good championship. Roll on Oulton Park in two weeks time.

Regards Mark

Vids up very soon

Didn't know you were there colin! you should of come over and said hello, and I take it you noticed dad in the 93s. He was struggling around as the gearbox almost completely gone. But onwards and upwards, we shall put in a new (Second hand) gearbox for Oulton park and I can't wait!
Will we see you out Colin

Both the pre 93's & the classic thunder sported 2 of the most impressive grids of saloons cars ive ever seen.
When we were in the assembly area for practise the sight of the collection of so many good cars was quite impressive & genuinely didnt know where I was going to be on the grid as there were so many other race winners in race winning cars & I love cadwell but my car is a bit of a barge for here
Cheers Andy

I was supposed to be working / taking calls from irate farmers so parked up on the outside of Charlies with the box brownie. Managed to get as far as the paddock fence at dinner and had a cupper with Dave Clark / said hello to the old git with the bad back and had to nip back to work for a bit.
Ill try and post a few pics got some good ones of the classics.
Andys mob are mostly just a blur I cant keep up...

Aj Owen should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Hi all!!

although not the best of weekends racing for me i still loved it! never been to cadwell or seen it in my life before. was very happy with qualifiying i managed to put the old sierra P7 not bad for my first time at the track.

race 1 i managed to get the jump up to 5th before the red flags thats all i can say about race 1 lol

race 2 was one to forget im not going to go into it again as its been well documented whats happened.. all i will say is i have a very badly damaged sierra and bad whiplash from crash, im fine but i will be missing oulton as there is not enough time to get her ready.

dad and myself would still like to go to oulton if we could get any tickets? is there anyone who could help?

thanks

AJ

Hope you get the car sorted and glad you are ok, always goes well and looks good so its a shame it got bent. Through by the sounds of it an avoidable incident?

Hope to see you out in the car next year. Anyone with the surname Owen is always going to be high in my books to do well.....
