Oulton Park 13-09-2003
I attended the "Mersey Race Day" at Oulton Park on Saturday, and what a great day it was. It was my first time at Oulton since 1965. Needless to say there have been a few changes, But I have to say I was made most welcome by Jan and her pit crew, We had a fine day weather wise, A cracking card ,Full grids, and an Hour and a quarter for dinner. I was also treated to a ride around the circuit in the BMW M4 (I always thought of them as hairdressers cars but had to change my mind) So once again Thanks Oulton. nice place nice people.

Hi Ian,
I'm now confused (Nothing new there!) but I thought you were the OTHER Ian Smith (He's the Oulton FF co-ordinator!) Glad you enjoyed your day with the "Cheshire Set" even though I couldn't possibly afford to live there! I agree with you about the weather & the nice long lunch break but i thought the racing was very poor... at least where I was! Will you be coming to see us again? Mark |

Agreed, some great racing at Lodge aswell. I think in general it was a quiet day for marshals as in things to do (although we had a classic 3 seperate-incidents-all-at-once with the Hondas) - but at least we had some great racing to spectate!

Ok!
Perhaps the racing WAS good. Perhaps I was disappointed because I didn't get to see a good crash!! We had a 2CV run wide exiting Druids and headed towards us for a second.....but he waved as he went past us (On the grass) and tootled off!! |

Ahhhh but I was flagging with Captain Co-Co!
Jim W would have had to do all the writing along with Derek Lawson. It's sods law really beacuse next time, eveything will happen at Druids!! PS - I'm still getting my breath back after Warwick Bridge incident.....not used to running (or walking quickly!) |

to all the marshalls that were at oulton, what did you think was the most exciting race (or races) of the day? I was standing at cascades at thought both Honda races were the races of the day. constant overtaking with them too!!

WELL BEING A PIT MARSHAL i CANNOT COMMENT ON THE TRACK PERFORMANCES, BUT THE 2CV DRIVERS WERE THE ONLY ONES RUNNING IN THE PIT LANE AT RACING SPEEDS. i HONESTLY THINK THAT 2CV'S ARE EITHER STOPPED OF FLAT OUT, ER, OH YEH THEY COME INTO THE PIT LANE WITH ONE OR OTHER OF THE FRONT WHEELS CHANGING DIRECTION 5 TIMES EVERY SECOND. NOT THE MOST ROBUST STEERING SYSTEM IN THE WORLD
