Classic Endurance Race Monza
Paul Knapfield took the first win for a Ferrari, with his 712... - CanAm.
What happened to the rule that said only Le Mans cars of the pre-1972 period were eligible? AFAIK Gp.7 was never a class in the LM rulebook. |

Correct cybers, I can't really see how putting the 712 Can-Am car up against 5-litre Endurance racers of the period can really be fair. Ogf course, it's always good to see such cars out and about.
Does anyone know the rules for the series - just what can you bring along? |

I guess it would then depend on the definition of 'Prototype' then. Can-Ams were (sort of) Sports-Prototypes, but I wouldn't consider them the right cars to go up against the 3 and 5-litre endurance racers.

Fair, no. Unprecedented, no.
The same Gp.5 cars used to line up against the Can Am cars at Watkins Glen at the shared weekend after the Gp.5 cars had run their race on Saturday. Never really competed overall, but it was good fun. Also, in 1976 there was a race at Mosport for the prototypes (Alpine 442 and Porsche 936 among others) that allowed Can Am cars in (and in fact the race was won by a Shadow DN4). |

I think the CER is more about bringing interesting cars for the specatators on track than beeing serious competition.
So stretching the rules a bit to fit in a spectacular car seems appropriate to me |

Besides, isn't the ACO always on about things that are "not in the spirit"... |

Maybe that was the only opportunity for a italian build Ferrari to shine at their Homerace ...
So we should regard that as a one off... what about the regulations of the series? do they run for points now? If not we should enjoy the cars instaed of talking rules... |
